All one has to do is look in a slightly different direction and the connection breaks, They both have to maintain perfect eye contact despite not being able to see each others eyes cos they're blocked by laser.

All supes seem to have superstrenght and endurance depending on their human ability, they just have an extra skill that tells the difference. Butcher has the same strength as homelander as a sup because he s already badass as human, that's why he smirks even after getting punched by Homelander

I love that of all the fights in the show, Soldier Boy seems to demonstrate the most realistic hand-to-hand combat here. He throws punches with intent and a meaningful target (e.g. uppercutting Homelander’s liver), manages distance, head movement, so forth. Pretty creative attacks like a headbutt, cape-pulling, slamming.
Noticeably more strategic than all the untrained supes we see. Wish we got more Soldier Boy.

I don't understand what MM thinks he's gonna do to Soldier Boy, it's a suicide mission, and it won't make any difference, not even a scratch of harm would come to Soldier Boy by his hand or gun. if anything he would be hurting or killing Annie because she would no doubt reluctantly help him. same goes for prior encounters with Butcher (in non-supe mode); I get they want to hurt the supers but throwing out common sense seems more of a script trope than what they would really do.
