❤✌ The beaches will reopen in August! Get ready for 11 miles of pure Plum Island beach adventuring!✌
Today’s shell adventure – it is mid July and we are up for sunrise! It’s 59 degrees and a little after 5AM. You have to get up pretty early on Plum Island in the summer to beat the heat, the competition and the greenheads! When we arrived there was an amazing sunrise and a ton of shells to find in the wrack line. Today we searched in a little sand and even flipped over some rocks too! In addition to the amazing shells, we saw some amazing rocks with beautiful patterns and color! **swoon**. Today’s favorites scores include a unique orange deep water scallop shell, ginormous surf clams with pure white interiors, nacre filled blue mussels, barnacled covered rocks and so much more! Thank you for watching and subscribing! Subscribing lets me know you like the content I’m creating and it keeps me coming back!

❤✌ Visiting Plum Island Massachusetts ❤✌
Most IMPORTANT thing 1st: All of the really great shells I find in my videos are inside the Parker River Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge is closing 99.9% of the beaches from April 1st 2022 to August 2022 in an effort to protect the Piping Plover nests. Piping Plovers are endangered and the beaches are closed in an effort to help raise the plover population. When the beaches close, there is no beach access. The 1st gate will remain open, but it’s not good for shelling. At the very end of the refuge (after gate 7) there are the Bar Head Rocks (featured in this video). Those rocks are located on Sandy Point reservation (which is Ipswich Ma and not part of the Parker River Wildlife Refuge.) That section will remain open! It’s VERY good for shelling.
If you want the full Plum Island experience (all 11 miles of beach) – late August, September, October, November and December are great months. The off season is best because during the summer the island is very congested.
The spring is ok, but the weather can be very unpredictable as you can see from watching my videos.
Green Heads: We also have Green head flies that start swarming early July through August. They love the beach and they bite. They are like mosquitos on steroids.
Where to Shell: The Parker River Wildlife Refuge Gates 5 to Bars Head is amazing for shelling.
It’s always best to contact the refuge before booking any trips if you are coming specifically for shelling and the beaches. This way you are sure the gate to the lower lots will be open along with the beaches.
The website: https://www.fws.gov/refuge/parker-river
Where to stay: There are Air BNB’s all over the island, but The Blue Inn is SPECTACULAR. Right on the ocean – I am a huge fan. Newburyport is right over the bridge and it’s perfect for New England Charm. Tons of restaurants, Inns and Air BNB’s.
Where to Eat: There are several restaurants on the island, to name a few of my favorites: The Beachcomber, The Plum Island Grill, Bob Lobster, Georgie Porgies.
Newburyport: Sea Level is my absolute favorite! As well as The Park Lunch.
Other Activities: Plum Island Kayak, Newburyport Whale Watches, Fishing Charters, Surfing, Sailboat Tours – so much fun!
…And if you see me on the beach, be sure to flag me down and say hello!

Try cleaning with toothpaste. It's especially good if you have any smelly shells. 👍
Love the wood boring shell story.
Surf calms good for gardens, nutrients help flowers n vegetables plus great divider from lawn.
Beautiful sunrise, tides have been low and we have had some wicked storms North Eastern LI
Gorgeous sunrise!!! Thanks for another great adventure. Love all those big surf clams and especially loved that nice moon shell. You have a beautiful beach at negative low tide. I need to get up there one of these days!! Have a great week!
That live moon snail was totally cool! Lovely sunrise, and fun to see the hermit crabs being "social"! LOL Wonderful video as always. Hugs from Virginia!
For once I'm more jealous of your Temps instead of the shells 😭 59°!?!? We had a heat index of 124° today I Louisiana. 😫 it's currently 12:14 am and it's 86° outside
I loved that waterlogged piece of wood with the bore hole, green seaweed and shells, it was beautiful!
Good idea using peroxide and water to clean shells! I had not heard of using that but it makes perfect sense. Thank you! And for another beach shelling adventure!
First, cute hair. Great video, I did laugh at the hermit crab shopping for a new home. Thank you for the video.
Nice beach walk!! I just got back from six days at Sanibel Island!! Not the best shelling ever, but what fun shelling for hours and hours!!
Great haircut! I’m off the teals this week and in to lavender! My nails turned blue! Negative low tide sounds like a jackpot! Have a great week!
Wow! I'm surprised the breeding season is over that soon. Around here our plover nesting areas are always roped off … I never even thought about when the breeding season has technically passed 😅. It's been so hot & humid in NJ that I don't even care if I see the beach. I'm totally a fair weather beach goer in the summer – can't be too hot or buggy, wind has to be in the right direction, etc. I appreciated the virtual walk with you this AM!
Liked the intro. A little preview of what's to come. I like the beauty of the clams. They can be so understated until you look hard at the patterns etc..
Wow such treasures again today. Loved seeing the live moon. My goodness how did that huge thing get back into that shell😲 wow amazing creature. Loved seeing the hermit crabs too. Hugs to you both 🐚💜
I've never heard about cleaning the shells with peroxide. I will try it with my new found shells. Great sunrise!!!! The sun dollars are so beautiful. I agree that fall and winter are the best time for shelling. Florida was so extremely hot for me. I am thankful for the shells I found but ……..
Abrazos from Wisconsin!
Great sunrise picture with the illusion of 2 suns. The oyster has the look of wood, really pretty. the crabs competing for the shells is probable life or death for them – interesting how they trade up.
Love the sunrise. Great day for shelling. Thanks, Jaime. Great as always!
Jamie, can you chisel pieces of rock. I live in Richmond Tx and some of these rocks are the most beautiful I’ve ever seen and that’s a long time 83 yrs. By the way, I like your hair. I’ve been watching about 6 months and love your show.
98 degrees here in MO today.
I am an advocate for collecting those gi-normous surf clams!!!! Along with those giant cinna-bun moon snails of course 😁👍
WOW, beautiful sunrise! Onto shelling…
Oh wow! Thats how those holes get in the stones! Fascinating indeed!!!
Thats funny about you n bugs, lol.. You touch all these sea creatures n algea but dont touch me bug! 😂
Hi Jamie, thanks for responding to my question about rocks. Sorry to say I can’t remember where I asked and you responded. I do remember your short hair, the color rock I remember, I couldn’t find for a better description. You were holding it and said the red color was called jasper. I loved the color. Even though I love the blue oyster shell with blue on inside, I would so appreciate a rock. I would love looking at it in my bedroom. I knew people hunted shells and did not know why until I saw your program. I’m a watcher now. Thank you again. An exciting fan, Beverly
Great video! Your hair looks cute! Thanks for the cleaning tips. I’ve never tried peroxide before but I sure will next time!! Watching the hermits was fun. I like to see the critters!! I also loved all of the big clam shells. You just don’t find them that big in the Gulf or around Tampa Bay. Thanks for taking us with you!
It always bummed me out as a kid that the colors would disappear from the shells when I got them home

There’s my shell loving friend!!! Miss you!
