In the 1910s as Germany built up their High Seas Fleet, the Royal Navy settled for whatever Germany had plus 60%. This was unsustainable for the German (!) economy, which tells you just how powerful Britain was in the run-up to WW1. France had a set of conflicting doctrines which meant their procurement was slow and ineffective.
When the Dreadnought was commisioned in 1906, this effectively reset the numbers, but it was still no contest. Britain was unrivaled at sea and the US and Japan were relatively-speaking colonial backwaters until well into the 1910s. The US could only afford two dreadnoughts a year and almost no escorts (due to Congressional budget bickering). Until the end of the war and the Washington Treaty, no one else really had a chance. If you think the base HOI4 British deathstack is bad, that's nothing on what the force ratio was historically in WW1.
Obviously the AI in HOI4 is dumb, so there are ways round it, but historically the French gave up any chance of outcompeting Britain navally, and the US only exceeded the Royal Navy's fleetsize in 1942.

Tension had been mounting between the two states as a race to build battleships increased which is one of the reasons we see the London Naval treaty. Effectively though the British fleet would dominate and blockade Germany.

Your wife probably won't approve and I've heard that drowning isn't fun. If you have the time I'd suggest exploring some of the tributary rivers like the Main, Neckar and Mosel.
The reason close air support isn't an option in the game im sure is because the idea of it wasn't really a thing at this point. I think most countries started to realize it toward the end of the war, around 1917, not entirely sure on that. Still, close air support is extremely dangerous if you can't communicate effectively, so even if the idea was put in practice, it would likely be done so very rarely.

I am a week late for this, but anyway. I just wanted to comment on the "rediscovery" of Machu Picchu at 06:40. The ruins weren't a secret to the local population. There were even people living among the ruins doing farming. At least that is what I remember from the guided tour I took there in 2015.
