Historic iron scow in the Niagara River has broken into several pieces

A piece of Niagara Falls history could soon be washed away by the raging river. The iron scow which has sat at the brink of the falls for over a hundred years is falling apart.

Recent changes in ice conditions on the Niagara River have caused damage to the century-old shipwreck at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls. The iron scow has been stuck in the same spot since August 6th, 1918.

Adam Atkinson reports.

  1. At 0:35, he says that the iron scow has been stuck in that spot since 1918. That's incorrect. It was dislodged from its original spot in 2019 after a Halloween windstorm. That was when it rolled and ended up in its current resting place. That entire piece of the story was missing. Obviously, there has been significant erosion in 104 years; however, the damage from the storm and its new position certainly has a lot to do with it breaking up. It's not just erosion over time that caused it.
