  2. This was a strong moment in what has been an overall lame and confusing season. Episodes 4 through 7 were strong and, I thought, were tilting toward a reunion with Wendy and Chuck. Despite appearances, they actually work as a couple because they're intellectual equals, far more than she did with Axe. But the last episodes, up until this moment, really made no sense and were, frankly, boring.

    It's not clear why Chuck is after Prince with such venom. Because he wanted to bring the Olympics to New York? And he had to grease a few palms to do so (which happens all the time)? Chuck is on a high horse – but you almost don't mind seeing him fall off. It's not clear what the stakes are, other than his petty grievances. The writers really lost grasp of what made the early seasons so great – you literally couldn't tell, from one moment to the next, what each character would do. And there was truly things at stake – justice, love, greed, friendship, etc.

    And, frankly, I'm tired of seeing so much of Taylor, a character that was once compelling, but now is in too many scenes at the expense of so many other interesting characters. If the writers were smart, she would get her humbling moment too, her arrogance about everything and everyone deserves it. She's an insufferable bore.

  16. I could watch Paul Giamatti chew up scenery all day. When given a monologue the man is hypnotizing. He does subtle just as well as he does ferocious. He is THE finest character actor we have today.

    This is like a scene in GOT except the characters are in suits and tie instead of winter fur coats and outrageous costumes … what a scene!!!

  26. This whole show is for fifth graders. Always being so dramatic about common fucking knowledge. This guy just made a ten minute metaphor to the Hindenburg. Could have made it one sentence. Besides, the point is that they’re corrupt? The Hindenburg crashed because the engineers fucking crashed it

  27. I'm not in favor of billionaires, I think they've built their empires with the blood, sweat, and tears of their employees. That said, Axe was a monster and a prick and he did deserve to go down for what he did. Prince is no saint, but he's far more ethical and honest about things than Axe was. (That's not much, pond scum was more honest than he was, but at least Prince was going to do something with the Olympics after the show was over.)

    The key thing that ties this all together is Chuck. He might not be filthy rich like they are, but he's just as connected if not more so. He's been a horrible prick from the first episode and he's been nothing but a pretentious hypocrite. He was wheeling and dealing backdoor deals for 6 seasons and burning bridges and hurting people like Ira just to get back at his enemies and yes, he used his office for vendettas.

    This was long overdue. Long, long overdue. Dave is the most honest character in the entire series thus far. She never hid that she was in her previous job for the money. She never broke any laws or rules, she just did her job. It's a shame that one character, in one season, is the most honest of them all. (Granted, I haven't seen the rest of the season yet. But to this point, she is.)

    I didn't want Axe to win except when Chuck was being himself. This time, because Chuck is being himself, he handed Prince the win, and honestly, Prince is the better of two evils.
