  1. I know it defeats the purpose of the hypothetical, but given how trolleys work, flip the tracks to be in-between tracks. May damage the trolley and the tracks, but no one gets ran over.

  2. Another example, someone is getting rapped in a back alleyway and you completely have the ability to step in and you know its happening. If you don't step in you may not have committed the rape, but you still did something terrible. There is a reason why religions have sins of commission (something you did) and sins of omission (something you should of done but didn't). Stumbling onto the scene, sure you didn't tie people to the tracks, but it is your duty as an able and knowing person to attempt to reduce the suffering and death of everyone in the situation. Sure, there may be that one guy who does genocide who you don't know before hand that you save, but it isn't your fault, God, and morality care more about what good you put effort into doing through good means.

  3. Ultimately looking at the bigger picture killing the genocide guy with the other 4 would be the better option since millions of lives would be spared. That and the lady lied about being pregnant.
