Mick needs to take the 5% and go away
They sold the rights to their music. He got 25% of that money. He's still getting 7 and a half percent from them touring. He signed an agreement. This all seems to be sour grapes, and I can't stand Nikki Sixx. If he can't tour what were they supposed to do? John 5 is special to say the least..
I'll always stand on the side of mick, he was motley crue, he was the sound that made that band. Wasn't nikkis shyt bass playing or horrible lyrics.
Motley makes a LOT of money off merchandise…… Mick should still be compensated for that.
Most people don't understand how musicians get paid. I'm obsessed with Rock music and I don't really understand it either. Definitely an interesting topic.
Motley Crue is a brand, people are going to watch them perform live because of the brand/name, Mick Mars was a quarter of that pie
Mick has put up with their bullshit for years addictions . Sexcapades criminal charges all the while dealing with a crippling chronic health condition and never complained . Now he has succumbed to illness they want to get greedy . How about loyalty they started this career together . The rest of them can’t play sing very well anymore let’s face it . If they lose Mick they lose their sound . I am team Mick . He can’t tour due til I’ll health but he’s still in the band . They are trying to do the dirty on him . Hypocritical from the guy who has a tattoo. Of Mick on his leg. 40 years and this is how they treat him .
7.5% of a world stadium tour is $$$. Think that's fair… Love the Vlog Justin!
I think Justin seems nice when he is relaxed and speaks like a normal person like here. I get annoyed when he plays with words, distinctly pronouncing words like a snob.
I'm on team Crue. Mick is hurting not only the band, but himself. Fans of Mick might not buy tickets so Mick won't be receiving as much royalty payments when the band plays songs he co-wrote. Not buying music? he's not receiving royalties. Not gonna stream Crue music anymore? he's not receiving royalties. Would he be surprised if he asks to play on any new music and they say no? He shouldn't, you sue me, I think I won't associate myself with you… Claiming they all cheat and only I don't cheat? yeah, I'm sure the band will be happy to have you back… NOT. It is about the touring. The band is splitting ticket sales and merch sales. You don't tour, you shouldn't get a cut from ticket sales. Merch sales? yeah, if Mick's face is on the merch, he should get a cut. But I suspect he won't be anymore, and so no, he's gonna lose merch sales too. If I were in the band, I'd say, f him, we'll not put his likeness on t-shirts, posters, etc. besides, it's more money for us, splitting 3-way instead of 4 (assuming John-5 is a hired gun, not an official member of the band). After all, John is touring in place of Mick, should John be touring for free while Mick gets paid for John's work? Nope. New Crue music? yeah, they'll invite Mick to the fold… NOT.
and more on team crue, everyone says without Mick no Crue? Nikki wrote most of the lyrics. And was either sole writer or co-writer of most of the songs. Live wire, too fast for love, Shout, Looks, Too Young, Kickstart? nothing but Nikki, lyrics and music. most of the others, Nikki likely wrote the lyrics and was a co-writer, save for covers (smoking, helter). So no, Mick isn't Motley Crue, it's more like Nikki is Motley Crue, with support from Mick and Tommy (and lesser extent Vince), at least from a songwriter/lyricist perspective.
Nikki sixx is a jerk, just selling an image, crue are overrated, i stand with mick
The thing about being a felon… They signed an agreement where you can be fired from the band for being a felon. It's all in Mick's case, of which there is a PDF available via Rolling Stone. It makes more sense if you read the whole story. #teammick
I am a comic book artist. If work with a writer to create a character and we agree that we split the profits 50/50 then years later he wants to make more comics with that character with a new artist. I still own 50% of that character and still get 50% of the profits. If he wants to continue to create stories with another artist he has to pay that artist from his 50%.
I get what you are saying about Mick not playing live. But he still owns 25% of that music. If the other three want to play the music without Mick then they need to pay the guy out of their pockets.
I'm tired of rock bands not being rock bands. Play to a click track, that's fine but faking it is just not interesting to me. Please don't tell me Iron maiden fakes anything because it was the best show I saw in the last few years.
Mick Mars and family financed early Motley Crue. The bands sound is largly resltant of Mick's writing and guitar riffs. Crue would not be touring without Mar's as its those early records that allows them to draw a crowd. And Mick said he would still write and record for the band. And its not the first time the rest of the band discussed kicking him out of his band.
I love your theme song
No question, I'm on team Mick. He IS Motley Crue. His riffs are what made MC what they were. Nikki even got Mick's face tattooed on his leg. Nikki is a narcissistic a-hole who is making a last-ditch money grab cos they're all getting too old to tour (tuur/tore? lol) Mick has always been about the music, not the money, but this time he's had enough. Plus the 'propping him up' wording of Nikki's press release was downright unkind and rude considering Mick's ankylosing spondylitis. Are MC denying they aren't playing live? I haven't heard them deny that. Mick played live. Apparently you could tell because he would make the occasional mistake due to the back-track playing in his ear. Mick is a musician, first and foremost. I wish him all the best. He is a Legend 🤘🏼
It's like Queensryche fighting on who gets the bands name. What will happen is a judge will award him 25% of what the masters are worth
For the love of God Mick has continued for years battling his crippling disease and yet the others have the balls to cut him out of his part. Also about the contracts are really bs in my opinion. Didn’t every member of the band sign a contract stating that the last concert was being held in LA several years ago. Thus making ticket prices skyrocket and they all broke that contract by playing and touring again.
Speaking of targeted advertisement. I get an ad for a flashlight I could use as a lethal weapon to 'protect my family'. 😂 … can probably also be used against former band members? Ah, the DIRT! ❤
Yes he should get paid anyway, he is an owner board member executive which ever you want to be called. I think his beef is not getting paid for performing this tour as the band has had to hire John 5 and pay him a salary that is coming off the bottom line. Mick should be entitled to his profit sharing and or any other perks for his position as owner, chairman. I’m sure it’s not 25 % of all the money no business would survive if that type of income was disbursed to one individual. I’m sure they also have manager that gets paid percentage of tours and all aspects of the business. Maybe his salary would be like 25% of all income combined and then based on the profit. I am in sales industry and when you combine all sales up and figure out the percentage of profit comes to in the end then our salary is roughly around 20-30 % of that.
Learning to mime convincingly would take so much time. Time better invested into playing the instrument. We never made enough money to throw stones at each other, so I can’t really comment on how i would react, but so far we always split any live money evenly through either the people on stage (not always the band members) or through the people on stage and the mixer, if we brought him/her along. 🤷🏻♂️
#MickMars not Motley 2023
Mick Mars: 'So that's it, after 41 years? So long, good luck?'
Motley Crue: 'I don't recall saying good luck.'
Mick Mars is even a bigger joke now!
When I read the Heroin Diaries I knew one day Mick would get a knife in the back. The way Nikki treated him back then and laughed about it predicted the future on this one. I hope they find something to fix this. I like John 5. I like Motely Crue. But this could get really ugly really fast.
It would be nice if they dedicated a portion of the show to him. Maybe put up a video. Maybe give him a little money out of friendship. I don’t know. I’m just an old lady.
You make a fair point: Where are the cuts being made? We probably won't know unless it goes to trial.
Didn't Motley Crue retire years ago?
I agree with Mick.
I feel like Mick feels it’s his band and was ousted. Nikki feels it’s his band for sure. That’s where I feel this is all coming from.
N has a tat of M on his leg, just saying……
Mick was the only class act in the band.
Mars has tens of millions of dollars. Crue hasn't put out a new studio album in 15 years. That manager is 100% right — retiring from touring IS retiring from the band.
Bummer for Mars, as he had a lot of fans who regard him as one of rock's great underrated guitarists. Now, instead of retiring gracefully and being remembered as that unsung guitar hero, he'll be remembered as a whiny little millionaire.
Mick is the only one that is a true musical talent and musician.
The rest all the rest, not at all
Didn't they all sign an agreement to not tour, we see how that went. I'll side with Mick. The only version of Crüe I'd spend money to see is at this point without Mick, is with Tommy, Nikki, John 5 and John Corabi. And maybe just call themselves The Crüe.
I think there is a big misunderstanding with the fans though. They sold off their publishing rights ex. royalties. years ago and got paid millions for doing that. The only real money they make now is from touring. I think a lot of people are assuming that he's getting cut down to 5% for EVERYTHING, I don't believe thats true. He's only being cut down to 5% for TOURING. Well, i mean if he's not touring anymore why should someone be getting anything at all?? And they still offered him 5%. So if it's just touring that they are talking about i don't think Mick is being really fair by suing them. If its across the board with everything. Then i could understand why he would sue. But i think everybody is just assuming it's everything across the board when i don't think it is. From what I've read and heard it does look like its just touring.
I feel the same way as Justin. Not a fan after anything they did in 94, but they're were a huge part of my introduction to rock music in the 80's. It's just a bummer all around. I certainly don't know the truth, but it's ugly now.
If your not touring and someone’s playing your parts take the 7% and shut up!
Vince sucks he should be out can't even remember any of his own songs.
3 old business men vs 1 older actual musician. Team Mick Mars always. Inspired me to pick up the 6 string.
Mick is in the RIGHT. The rest of them are wrong! Period. They should have called it quits like they said they were going to do in 2015. #TeamMick
I used to be a huge fan but I agree with Mars–theyre all sellouts now.
JUSTIN would you do something on Lynard Skinard? ontributions of each guitarist? what is it about their story or songs that make them still as magic now as they were in pre-October 1977. I'm curious about what you think? what is it about them? loyalty that obviously Motley Crue lacks.rock on
PS prior to their 2015 supposedly last tour they all said they didn't want to be old rogues propped on stage. hey Vince. hey Tommy and Nikki–youre all old farts crooning the same old songs
