Heroic 7th grader prevents disaster on school bus ride home

Dillon Reeves, a 13-year-old student at Carter Middle School, saved the day when he sprang into action during a bus ride home from school after the bus driver passed out behind the wheel. The entire school district of Warren Consolidated Schools in Michigan hosted a ceremony to honor Dillon’s heroic act, where he was praised for his quick thinking and bravery.

  1. Kudos to that heroic young man who saved the day! He acted proactively, quickly, and accurately while the rest of the students sat screaming. And he also had command presence. He should go far in life!

If someone watches the bus driver in the video closely, they can tell he was having a seizure. When he called over the radio to dispatch, he most probably was experiencing an aura, a warning sensation of seizure activity coming on. As the electrical activity starts to spread across the brain, a person may feel confused or dazed and may experience fumbling and muscle stiffening. You could the bus driver's change in mental and physical status progress as his right hand was clenching while his body was shaking in his seat, as groaning- moaning could be heard due to air passing over his vocal chords during clonic-tonic activity. Which that being said, a seizure can occur for many types of reasons besides epilepsy. A seizure can occur from electrolyte imbalances such as too high or too low levels of sodium, calcium, and magnesium, too high or too low glucose levels. Certain medications can affect glucose levels. Seizures can also be brought on by fever, high caffeine levels, or an injury to the brain.
