I will never buy a Tesla simply coz there is a big screen in the middle that is nothing but a distraction… I want buttons for the simple things like seat heating-heat in the steering wheel and the heating system.. and a speedo in top of the dash or a HUD the rest is just a distraction. What I notice, especially here in Central Florida (Orlando-Space Coast area, to be specific), is that people seem to not know where to go and keep changing lanes and constantly slow down and slam the break. Either they are tourists or elderly. Every single day you have a 50/50 chance of being stuck on the I-95 from a random accident from minor to worst. I still can't comprehend how you can cause an accident on a wide, straight road. Lots and lots of people are on the phone while driving too. You would think teenagers would do such a thing, but what's funny is that most of them were adults. Y'all need to put the phone down and plan before you go.
The cars with the highest safety ratings are the most dangerous because when people think they are indestructable they dont feel the need to be cautious. I daily drive an 82 toyota fj40 which is basically a coffin on wheels. In 31 years of driving, ive never had an accident. Im never on my phone, hell i dont even look at my passengers when talking to them.
I think that outside of the obvious “the car is faster than most people are ready for” cars, the reason these smaller cars are so high up is probably because they’re getting obliterated by these giant american suvs with terrible visibility 😒

The average age of the people choosing those vehicles might also have something to do with it. I remember only seeing older people in the first gen Venza, I don't know if that carried over in the latest gen. Prius in my experience also has a lot of elderly drivers.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but EVs don’t need to be as fast as a modern super car. They should lower the acceleration speed somehow. Not necessary for the average driver, especially the younger generation.
I think it comes down to the driver and skill, it's not about the car.
I drive small cars and coupes my whole life,. Golf, Sentra, Excel, Civic, Z, 86, Fit, RSX. Never even a fender bender.
When I drive, I assume other drivers don't see me al atll as if I were invisible, so I always have an out or an option.

Where is made is not the problem, is the demographic that drives those cars.
I don’t think it’s where the Korean or Japanese’s cars are made, it’s because USA has so many huge SUVs and especially pickup trucks so smaller vehicles are at a disadvantage because of that in the USA. It a problem in most other countries including Korea and Japan.

The phone is blamed on distracted driving 🤔 but the big ass screens in most cars isn't yeah ok sure. Funny they start putting all these "safety systems"in cars when they put screens in cars. And it was all done to cover their asses and not have massive lawsuits knowing having screens in cars are distracting .

Many of these cars (especially smaller cars and electrified cars) are probably more likely to be driven in the city than on the highway, and therefore rack up fewer miles overall. That would drive up the fatalities per billion miles driven figure. I don’t think it necessarily makes these cars less safe. It’s one of those correlation versus causation phenomena.

I will say my distracted driving is near zero since getting a car with Apple Carplay, but the AC controls being in the infotainment screen doesn't help at all.
My opinion on Tesla figures: Even though it’s a heavy car, the weight is concentrated on the floor pan due to the battery and necessary reinforcement to protect it. Above that, it’s a flimsy tin can with awful build quality.
A second comment from me, why are Toyota models scattered all over these lists but not Lexus? A lot of the range are sharing floorpans and drivetrains. Must be down to driver demographic…
I’m just gonna say it the people that buy crv’s and CRV hybrids are not good drivers at all they barely know where they are 90% of the time 😂 or they are 100 and that applies to them 10X
The crv hybrid appears to have a problem with its autonomous braking unexpectedly. A false positive fault in the system. Either bad sensors or a glitch in the software.
Hi Kirk, your videos are at an epically high standard and it's always great to hear from you and your insights into the worldwide car industry. I live in Europe, and I have a theory about why the Honda CR-V is so high on the list. I own one and I think it's because it handles similar to a small sports saloon rather than an SUV – the drive is very engaging with great steering, and it's like that of a smaller car. With that in mind, I think drivers get a bit carried away and forget they're driving a (nearly) two-tonne monster, hence increasing the chances of it being involved in serious accidents! If you want any feedback as to how things are going in Europe, let me know! Keep the videos coming, they're top quality!
I live near the Chrysler Plant in Brampton where the Challenger and Charger are made… SSSSOOO many idiot new drivers buy these massive pieces of shit… they don't know how to drive and do it FAR too FAST! We have the highest insurance rates in the Country because of these fools!!

Size, weight, speed, weather and road conditions, driving under the influence or not. All vehicles sold in NA have to meet minimum crash and safety specifications. Newer vehicles have better designed crumple zones. Plus more safety features – location and number of air bags, 360 cameras, lane assist, traction control, different driving modes, etc.
