Helping a Family RESCUE Their Overgrown Backyard from a Desperate Situation!

This backyard required some major renovation. When a yard gets to this length it is nearly impossible for the average family, with average equipment, to get it back into shape – that’s where I come in. In this episode, which is part 2, you’ll see me helping out a young family and slowly getting their yard back to normal. Everything that was taken away was done at the request of the owners, and it came up very well, so watch until the end. Hopefully, you will be as shocked as the homeowners at this amazing transformation. All up, I spent around 10 hours on this section, with 3 trips to the landfill and recycling station.

FAQ’s:

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘🦘🦘.

Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.

Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.

Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs!

Q: What happened to Nick?
A: Nick was offered a full-time position at his other job as a Political admin!

Q: What happened to Brent?
A: Brent quit at the start of August 2022.

Q: Why don’t you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!

Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it’s because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn’t matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 – 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️

Q: Why are you cutting so close to your employee!
A: I’m not cutting too close to my workers, they are standing too close to where I am working! All of my workers have been told numerous times about standing too close to the tools and about the hazards involved!

Q: Why do your workers do all the lifting and carrying?
A: Basically, they are employed to carry things and I pay them well, to do the job required.

Q: You work so well together, how do you do it?
A: That’s the magic of editing. My workers are basically given instructions on what to do, I just edit it all out, so the videos look seamless!

Q: Why don’t you have help?
A: I’ve had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.

Q: Why don’t you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. Currently, I don’t do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k on a good ride on mower.
2. I don’t have anywhere to store it.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can’t actually get a ride-on in there.
4. I don’t have the right trailer for a ride on, considering we always take the green waste away.
5. I will get one as soon as all of the above are solved.

Q: What happened to your workers?
A: Because the work is so hard and I expect high standards, most have quit over time. The only exception so far is Nick!

Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.

Q: Who/what is Jim’s Mowing?
A: Jim’s Mowing is a franchise business. The Jims Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.

  1. WOW! What a transformation! Great video! I'd love to see a video of all the brick & concrete getting power washed. That would make such a huge difference in that backyard too.

  2. I was amazed when you uncovered the path—how could the vegetation get so thick?—but then you uncovered the pavers and I was flabbergasted! I would never have guessed a patio was under there.

  3. Great job again. Are you planning on power washing the brick patio?
I had a thought about the videos, how about having a few short segments at 1:1 interspersed in the sped up sections? I’ve seen that on a couple other vlogs, liked it. Just an idea.

  4. Your back had to be screaming after you dug out that patio. Plus disassembling a trampoline and all the weed eating. Massive recovery! I’m sure the neighbors that had to look out on this mess appreciate you.

  5. Wow, that was a true transformation! You worked so incredibly hard – you must be very fit! When you took that big clump of whatever off the fence, I could almost hear the neighbours in the brick house cheering!! They'll get so much more light now in that room. I don't know the name of the tool you use to loosen the soil to get roots out and scrape off the thick turf on the patio but I always get a bit nervous when it gets close to your shins, lol. It works a treat though. Great job once again, George. Cheers from over the ditch. 🙂

  7. Fantastic transformation! Wow! I really enjoy the discovery aspects of your videos. Its fun to see what one uncovers after years of neglect. Imagine how it must have looked in the beginning! And how happy they would be if they were watching from beyond! Nice job Mr. George, looking forward to episode #3!

  8. Absolutely crazy! 🤯Imagine working a three man job alone and only get a fifth of the usual price and don't get fully paid! 😨Big respect for your suffering while supporting other people in need. 💪My back still hurts just watching you shoveling that platoon! 😮I hope next time you get paid twice as much as usual for your next job. 🤑 Keep up the good work & YT Videos! Cheers 🤩

  9. The before and after on this one is like night and day George! Think even the residents wouldn't recognise it!
Loved the bricked area reveal and the trampoline take-down!. Don't get the bricked area…. It's not patio or BBQ area as it's not flat… could maybe put some bean bag loungers on it 🤔…
You put in some hard yards on this one. Nice work mate!

  10. As always excellent work! The brick patio looked like a shocking surprise and took an endless amount of back breaking work to clear. Everything you touched looks great! The neighbors will now have a much more pleasing view from their window. Cannot wait to see the additional episodes and transformations.
