Hellboy Origins – This Red Devil Superhero Is From Dark, Surreal And Lovecraftian World Of Fear!

As soon as we say the words “comic books”, one of two logos are likely to pop up in your minds; or maybe both. DC and Marvel Comics have become the standard-bearers of superheroes worldwide; but they’re not the only ones in the fantasy-realising business. The American Comic Book industry is much more than those two companies. There is a litany of independent publishers whose work is gaining more and more mainstream appreciation as time passes. Dynamite Entertainment’s adult comic series The Boys is the latest pop-culture phenomenon, thanks to Amazon’s relentless pursuit of bolstering their content library. But before we became familiar with Homelander and The Seven, there was Hellboy; a half-demon Paranormal Investigator, and the flagship character of America’s third-biggest comic book publisher, Dark Horse Comics. Mike Mignola’s brainchild has single-handedly kept Dark Horse afloat, thanks to his ingenious world-building and the mythic lore surrounding the Cambion. Every time you see Hellboy on the pages of a comic book, you know you’re going to get a history lesson in folklore and cosmic horror unlike any you’ve ever experienced before. When he first surfaced in 1993, his foe was the obscure 19th-century Russian mystic known as Grigori Rasputin. Over the years, Big Red has faced off against many occult/mystic figures from world mythology and literature. Hecate, Gabriel, Cthulu, Kali; Mignola has touched upon some of the most benevolent- and destructive- deities from every source he could find. And the best infernal nightmare that Mike could’ve cooked up for his comics happens to be Hellboy himself! Big Red’s nearly 30-year existence hasn’t been one of self-discovery; well, technically anyway, because upon his birth his fate had been decided. This video is going to explore Hellboy’s true name; and the terrible purpose that he bears along with it.

  1. Seriously you had to push your politics? My god can we have anything that isn't hiding an agenda. Your literally shoe horned your "conservatives are the evil guys" crap into this break down🤦 I am neither conservative nor liberal. 3. I’m going with Anunung Rama Hellboy over King Thor or Galactus. Herald King Thor is going to be a fight but neither of those is a start and end all life in a universe type being. The Phoenix force on the other hand is.

  4. Not sure if “obscure” is the right term for Rasputin, I mean yeah, the Hellboy version is clearly historical fiction so maybe that version could be obscure, but Rasputin is pretty famous and therefore well known, don’t think obscure is the right word, maybe infamous.

  5. "Marvel and DC aren't the only one's in the fantasy-realizing comic business"
Huh. Could'a fooled me. Lot of the time, it seems like anybody else's stuff is seen as 'sub-par', and gets forgotten instantly.

  6. I still haven't watched the new hellboy. Like legit I'm that loyal to the orginals that I boycotted the new hellboy completely. He will never be the true hellboy to me.

  8. AFAIK the vampire woman he meets in hell isn’t Nyharlethotep. No named Lovecraft deities appear in hellboy, just beings similar to them in the ogdru-hem.

The vampire lady is hellboy’s ex wife from hellboy in Mexico
