Hellblade 2 Review – Worse Than I Thought

This will be the live discussion about my Hellblade 2 review and how it is worse than I thought. My initial reaction to the Hellblade 2 gameplay was pretty disappointed, but it somehow got worse as the game progressed. As a huge fan of the first Helllbade game and Ninja Theory, this is not the Hellblade 2 reaction and live stream I wanted to make.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is a 2024 action-adventure game developed by Ninja Theory and published by Xbox Game Studios. The game serves as the sequel to Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and is set in 9th century Iceland, drawing inspiration from Norse mythology and culture.

  1. voices inside Doc Dark's head during today's stream: "he's bringing up good points Doc, the combat isn't the same at all" "no! he's just a pony, you were right all along Doc" "maybe it is a glorified quick time event" "no! Phil wouldn't hype a game for 4 years if its just QTEs, these ponies just don't understand"

  2. This is like back in 2015 when Bloodborne outsold The Order 1886

General audiences have moved past these types of "games" unless its a choose your own adventure style game like Until Dawn… kinda sad that Ninja Theory went from Enslaved: Odyssey to the West to this slop

  3. I have had it. I am making my last round of comments on social media when it applies to gaming. All I see these days are negative pieces about games I enjoy. If I allowed myself to be influenced by these YouTube influencers I would have missed out on some of my favorite gaming experiences I have ever had. Why do so many of these vids need to exist? I don't understand and I am done tryng.

Everyone ganging up on a game like Hellblade is a real shame considering Ninja Theory put their heart and soul into it. In a day and age when games ship broken and messy, Senua's Saga runs flawlessly as technical marvel. It is even well optimized on PC and Series S. It is more of the same, but improved in nearly every way. Reviews on Steam and Xbox show the majority who finish it really enjoy it and I 100% believe PlayStation fans would be lapping it up just like the first game. It makes ZERO sense for someone to love the first and hate 2. Go watch GameScoop! and look at the pure joy on all their faces as they get to trash Hellblade, call it an 8 and proceed to say everything sucks. Are those guys not paid to be professional?

Gamers and gaming media are their own worst enemies and are playing a roll in killing gaming as we know it. I can't do it anymore. Obviously you end up with thousands upon thousands then trashing games they have never played and they are easily picked out. It is just too frustrating for me. I am cancelling my YouTube memberships. I want gaming off of my algorithm. Everything was more fun before I started doing this. It was a good run. Please, just play what YOU enjoy and don't let these people ruin your fun. Don't allow anyone to tell you what you should and shouldn't like. Happy gaming and enjoy life! Now, back to XDefiant and Starfield! I am even doing another run in Senua's Saga. lmao

  4. The defense for HB2 being an objective downgrade from HB1 comes from Xbox not providing anything notable since their "game of the generation" which was over 9 months ago and this is pretty much all they have, very sad.

  5. Like you, I fell in love with and played through HB1 multiple times. When I saw that it's an Xbox exclusive, and actually thought about getting one and ditching my PS4. Then it took another two years to come out and it was apparent that Xbox can no longer make the kind of games I devote hundreds of hours to, so I just ended up getting a PS5.

Here we are and HB2 comes out and is a shell of HB1. Again, like you, I'm so disappointed that this is the result of Team Ninja Theory's efforts as I no longer care to even play HB2 at this point.

59:41 what's missing from the commenter's criticism is that it's massive amount of world building with the environment and voices all being presented for you to get emersed into the game.

  6. I don't get why Lono wastes so much time on this dude. The person arguing here made their own video soon after this one was done. Almost as though they are just looking to farm Lonos (and his chat) for content and views.

It wouldn't be so annoying if they had some good points and not just shifting goalposts everytime Lono confirmed his own points.

  7. There trying to make it look more real by slowing her down with a heavy ass sword. I get it. But I guess if you don't like it then you don't like it. I didn't like either game so I can't comment

  8. I STILL don't know what "XBOX Tax" means.
Anyway, gotta say, I rather enjoy it when you're passionate about something, Lono and your expression of that passion is genuine: you can acknowledge the faults about something that's very appealing to you. Not exactly a novel concept, I know, but it's surprising the number of people who struggle to do that.

  11. I’m no Xbox Stan, I enjoyed hellblade 2 but I do agree the combat is definitely watered down and the story isn’t as compelling. I’m a fan of NT. I think it wasn’t as good as the first because the guy that did the first unfortunately left.

  12. Hey, this generation, for all of the technical prowess, Microsoft/Xbox needs a big win. They said it would be Halo Infinite. That didn't quite work out. Then they said it would be Redfall. Uh…no. Then they said it would be Starfield and Forza Motorsport. Well, they're decent enough but neither game set the world on fire. Then we have Hellblade 2. I too finished the original on Steam (Twice) and liked it. It is a good game, released at the right time in the right way. HellBlade 2 has impressive audio and video but the game after playing it on PC for a bit simple wasn't as fun as the original. To be fair, Hellblade 2 released with much higher expectation than the original and that doesn't help at all. But regardless of how good it looks, it has to be fun to play.

For me, it wasn't. Really pretty though.

  13. So with Hellblade 2's combat I can understand slowing it down to make it more realistic and weighty. But they didn't add any new mechanics to compensate for what they took away from the first game. The could have added blocking from different angles, weapon clashes, special counter attacks after a perfect dodge or parry. So much they could have done to make slower combat more interesting, but they didn't do that. It's just a slower with fewer combat mechanics than the first game.
