Heinkel He 162 : Nazi Germany EMERGENCY Wooden LAST Fighter Jet!

By 1944, the formerly invincible German Vermont was approaching its
limitations, struggling to block a fierce Soviet assault and the western allies’
combined liberation of Europe. Nazi Germany was critically short on oil, steel, soldiers, and war equipment, and the Luftwaffe was no different. Following multiple severe losses, the Third Reich’s air force found itself thinly split across numerous fronts and completely unable to sustain the units in service. Germany, on the other hand, was nothing if not tenacious, and its high command quickly encouraged the emergency fighter programme in a last desperate attempt to boost its operational aircraft numbers. The plan was to create inexpensive and capable aircraft fighters in record speed, providing Germany with a much- needed defensive shield against the increasingly regular allied bombing attacks. As a result, the Hinkle he 162 Volksjäger, or people’s warrior, was born.

The big week’s major goals were to cripple aircraft production factories and Luftwaffe air bases across Germany, hence the operation not only destroyed german fighters in the air but also those on the ground. The strikes resulted in Germany suffering huge fighter losses, leaving it unable to repel allied airborne raids into its territory. To make matters worse, the Third Reich’s lack of finances meant that damaged aircraft could not be adequately maintained, and even planes in good shape were frequently grounded owing to a shortage of fuel and replacement components. By the summer of 1944, the live fighter branch had been so badly battered that allied planes could easily fly over Germany with no resistance. For the German high command, the situation was terrible; they needed a solution as quickly as possible or Germany would be blasted into submission in a matter of months.

Two potential options were proposed. Adolf Galland, a famous Luftwaffe force commander and ace pilot from Germany, was certain that the only way out was via superior science and engineering, as he had done so many times before. Galland agreed with the concept of directing all Luftwaffe resources toward the rapid construction of the Messerschmitt me262. The experimental jet technology employed by the me262 was very promising, and German technicians recognised that if deployed in large numbers, the aircraft would greatly outperform any allied fighter, giving them a chance to reclaim air dominance.

Nonetheless, many other high-ranking nazi officials, including the Luftwaffe’s commander-in-chief Hermann Goering, thought that deploying the Messerschmitt me262 was impossible. Even if it could be done, the jet fighters’ small beginning numbers and lack of repair resources would make them insignificant in the larger German defensive plan. Instead, Goering advocated for the development of low-cost, replacement aircraft. Low-cost fighters would also be equipped with a jet engine to give them a competitive advantage over far more expensive allied planes.
