  1. 13:57 for sure, esp since in the novel they were like “do you want to bet high or low” and like “oh it’s higher this time” whereas specifically in the donghua subs they said big or small and were like “oh it’s BIGGER now” like brooooo. I’m not complaining though

  2. I couldn’t contain my joy! I squealed so much throughout both episodes so far! I am loving season 2. It is definitely living up to my expectations. (Animation, music, chemistry, scenes, and all) It’s like the novel come to life! Hopefully the donghua keeps closely adhering to the novel! Can’t wait for the next episode! Hualian and TGCF forever!

  3. The translations are a bit wonky? I think when Shi Qing Quan is introducing the two highnesses, he says sth like: and this is Xie Lian, well known for collecting… uh being greatly favoured by the Emperor. And some of the comedic wordplay got lost in translation too

  4. The animation direction is so different! We're getting so much expression in each of the characters, so we're learning a lot about them really quickly. It's honestly impressive and blows me away each time.
I love that even though it's agonisingly cute it really does preserve the feeling of 'it's just us messing around here, don't worry about the crowd.' It's still so comfortable.

  5. I immediately replayed this episode once it ended, I replayed the dice scene so many times including the lavish GEGE moment when HC stepped out. Seriously the animators are fucking killing itttttttt

  6. I would be interested in hearing from someone who speaks Chinese if the innuendos kictor and stitch point out are really there, or if the sensual play on words only comes from the English translation in these scenes. I'm an Italian translator, and if I translate into Italian what the English is saying, there is nothing sexual in it, it wouldn't have the same flavour. If the wordplay was there intentionally, I would be obliged to create it with some other sentence – it happens, when you have a joke or double-meaning that doesn't carry in the target language. It would be interesting to know if it's intentional from the start in this case.
