  1. When I see Hua Cheng's pain for how Xie Lian always put the blame on himself for everything always make me wanna cry. It just break my heart to remember how many times he has seen it and seen the suffering with his own eyes without being able to do anything to stop it.

  2. My first introduction to the animated version of this franchise has been this channel and I'm honestly rly disappointed that it shows little to none of Xie lians inner thoughts…HES A BADASS AND A SASSY KING, he's just rly good at hiding it 😭💔

  4. Oh Danny m'boy, Xie Lian would confess to eating his own father alive if it mean less people who hate each other and hate him instead. He's really the god of Self Depreciation.

  5. jesus christ Danny your jokes never miss. makes me wonder what jokes you would make if you reacted to a similar series written by the same creator, Mo Dao Zu Shi. A super fun and amazing story with ghosts, ghouls, spirits, love, heartbreak, and an absolutely gut wrenching story (once you truly understand the main character and his personality, that is). I highly recommend it and i can guarantee that there are many moments you will enjoy.

  6. Xie Lian is so righteous and upstanding that most people who actually know him would not believe for a second that he would kill so many people for something like revenge. Not for the officials who dont know him, but for the people close to him- they KNOW he wouldn't do something like that without a very good reason. That's why they didn't take his confession at face value and knew there must be more to it.

  7. I'm so sorry for you, Danny, that the donghua will never make it to the mecha-fighting parts of the novel. You would have such a blast with the plottwists, but it would take ages for the animation to be released. I'm sure it will be dropped after season 3 or 4.

  8. Hi! Below I’ve listed and explained some important concepts concerning the world building of Heaven Official’s Blessing. Read them or don’t, I don’t care. This contains NO spoilers. This only adds some context to concepts that are applicable to this genre, not just Heaven Official’s Blessing in particular. Again, nobody has to read this, I just felt like this would be helpful for anyone who may be confused or interested. (Everything written below is directly taken from the index at the back of the book “Heaven Official’s Blessing” Vol. 8 published by Seven Seas Entertainment)

*ASCENSION*: In typical xianxia tales, gods are conceived naturally and born divine. In /Heaven Official’s Blessing/, however, both gods and immortals were born mortal and either cultivated deeply or committed great deeds and attained godhood after transcending the Heavenly Tribulation.

*CULTIVATORS/CULTIVATION*: Cultivators are practitioners of spirituality and martial arts who seek to gain understanding of the will of the universe while attaining personal strength and extending their life span. Cultivation is a long process marked by “stages.” Some common stages are noted below, though exact definitions of each stage may depend on the setting.
    – Qi Condensation/Qi Refining
    – Foundation Establishment
    – Core Formation/Golden Core
    – Nascent Soul
    – Deity Transformation
    – Great Ascension
    – Heavenly Tribulation

*DAOISM*: Daoism is the philosophy of the dao, known as “the way.” Following the dao involves coming into harmony with the natural order of the universe. Cultivation is a concept based on Daoist beliefs.

*GHOST*: Ghosts are restless spirits of deceased sentient creatures. Ghosts produce yin energy and crave yang energy. They come in a variety of types: they can be malevolent or helpful, can retain their former personalities or be fully mindless, and can actively try to interact with the living world to achieve a goal or be little more than a remnant shadow of their former lives.

*HEAVENLY REALM*: An imperial court of enlightened beings. Some hold administrative roles, while others watch over and protect a specific aspect of the celestial or mortal realm, such as love, marriage, a piece of land, etc. There are also carefree immortals who simply wander the world and help mortals as they go.

*HEAVENLY TRIBULATION*: Before a Daoist cultivator can ascend to the heavens, they must go through a trial known as a Heavenly Tribulation. The nature of these trials vary, but the most common version involves navigating a powerful lightning storm.

*IMMORTALS AND IMMORTALITY*: Immortals have transcended mortality through cultivation. They posses long lives, are immune to illness and aging, and have various magical powers. And immortal can progress to godhood if they pass a Heavenly Tribulation.

*QI*: (Referred to as “mana” in the English dub of “Heaven Official’s Blessing”) Qi is the energy in all living things. There is both righteous and evil or poisonous qi.
Cultivators and other qi manipulators can utilize their life force in a variety of ways, including imbuing objects with it to transform them into lethal weapons or sending out blasts of energy to do powerful damage. Cultivators also refine their senses beyond normal human levels. (Or, as seen in season 2, can be used to fuel palm torches)

*QI CIRCULATION*: The metabolic cycle of qi in the body, where it flows from the dantian (lit. “Golden core”) to the meridians and back. This cycle purifies and refines qi, and good circulation is essential to cultivation. In xianxia, qi can be transferred from one person to another through physical contact and can heal someone who is wounded if the donor is trained in the art.

*QIANKUN*: /Qiankun/ can be translated to “universe.” Qiankun pouches or Qiankun sleeves are containers that are bigger on the inside, used to easily carry cargo a person normally couldn’t manage. Qiankun pouches are common in fantasy settings. (An example would be Xie Lian storing things in his sleeves)

*THE THREE REALMS*: Traditionally, the universe is divided into Three Realms: the Heavenly Realm, the Mortal Realm, and the Ghost Realm. The Heavenly Realm refers to the Heavens and Celestial Court, where gods reside and rule, the Mortal Realm refers to the human world, and the Ghost Realm refers to the realm of the dead.

*YIN ENERGY AND YANG ENERGY*: Yin and yang is a concept in Chinese philosophy that describes the complementary interdependence of opposite/contrary forces. It can be applied to all forms of change and differences. Yang represents the sun, masculinity, and the living, while yin represents the shadows, femininity, and the dead, including spirits and ghosts. In fiction, imbalances between yin and yang energy can do serious harm to the body or act as the driving force for malevolent spirits seeking to replenish themselves of whichever they lack.

  9. Day XX of commenting on (nearly) every video suggesting Iruma-kun, I realize you do have a pretty stacked plate so no rush but I genuinely hope you will give it a watch one day. It is such an unpredictable ride and if Icould I would absolutely send you a copy of Volume 1.

You and your editor keep up the fantastic work ^.^ all your stuff is just top quality fun content
(Also personal Movie rec because it's sorta an anime because Top Craft the studio behind it those who worked there would go on to create Ghibli which is just a neat bit of animation history I think)

  10. Season 1 and 2 feel so slowed down because you haven't read the book yet. The English translation has 8 volumes, however the series up until now covers the first and the half of the second book. The plot that XL and HC are involved on a personal level are only now beginning to develop. There is SO much more plot coming and since you haven't read the whole book, you don't understand nor recognise the depth of the foreshadowing for future events and the backstory of most of the characters especially XL. TGCF has different plot lines for nearly each character and you can only completely understand everything if you read the book several times since MXTX (the author) is a GENIUS when it comes to intertwining the depth and complexity of her characters with foreshadowing, mixing flashbacks and present as well as connecting those very different arcs with each other so that they built a whole very complex masterpiece. I believe that if there is gonna be third season it's gonna take a while for it to be finished so I'd recommend you to read the book. All I can say is that reading TGCF is a beautiful journey and rollercoaster of emotions. You won't regret it, I promise 🙂

  11. In my opinion the anime and manhua are more of a treat for the novel fans rather than a good introduction to the story. They both overlook many things and don't really tell the story as well as the novel. If you ever get the chance you should definitely read it!
I also wonder how the live action for Heaven Official's Blessing will turn out, considering how different 'the Untamed' is from Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (the Untamed is amazing though, if you like pretty boys, enemies to lovers, fighting, and solving murder mysteries it's definitely for you!)
