He Was Killed in a School Shooting. Now He’s Speaking Again. | WSJ

Joaquin Oliver was killed in the Parkland school shooting. Now with AI, his voice can be heard again. The rise of generative AI tools like Microsoft’s ChatGPT and ElevenLabs make it more accessible for anyone to create a bot of loved ones who have passed.

WSJ’s Joanna Stern sat down with Joaquin’s parents to find out how and why they are preserving their son’s legacy this way.

  1. A.I. voices will not do anything to curtail gun violence in the U.S. In fact, Biden's open border policy has led to hordes of violent criminals entering the U.S. Restrictive gun control leads to people "panic buying" guns and large-capacity magazines.

  2. What is immunity from prosecution of a head of state? This means that the head of a power can kill his opponents, subordinate the courts, legislative, and executive powers to himself, destroy the media and bring all the country’s subjects to their knees, force them to live in fear and then in poverty, as happened in Russia, Iran, Northern Korea. Does the US want to become a big North Korea?

  3. An AI voice robocall of Joe Biden telling people not to vote in the primaries happened like 2 weeks ago. Tech like this is already being used for evil, and it has nothing to do with this company. This is an extreme response to an extreme situation. Clearly kids getting killed isnt enough to have some common sense gun laws. Yet all of you just talk about how this is like some tv show or book and not how horrible it is we need to resort to things like this.

  4. Dude is never gonna let his son rest by turning him into a ghost to haunt people. It's funny how these Parkland victim families never talk about the fact that the Sheriff's Office let their kids die because they were scared of gunfire. Either they were told to be quiet or they were paid off, no loving parent would ever let that lie.

The only solution is to place armed guards at schools and it has always been the only solution. They've tried for 50+ years to get rid of guns and it is not ever going to happen just like restrictions on freedom of speech are never gonna happen.

  5. Gun control doesn’t work , criminals always get guns ! I do feel terrible about the shootings that have happened in America but we need to focus on mental health and what our kids listen to and watch !

  6. My heart breaks just listening to their voices, especially knowing they are nomore. These voices should cut through non believers of the gun control. This is ridiculous, that parents had to resolve to do this to make the deaf ears to hear again.
