I disagree with calling the battle of Hastings as a French battle, as Normandy wasnโt exactly part of the kingdom of France at the time, it was largely autonomous.

This is an old doco.
During the first world war, it was proposed to use English longbows to rain death on the enemy trenches with archery. But this idea was quickly dropped, as it would be impossible to train the troops in sufficiently large numbers to be of any use on the battlefield in a timely manner.

The battle of Hasting was not between the French and the English but the Norman's and the English. The Norman's or Northmen, were descended from Danish Vikings and actualy fought the French and at one time controlled more of what is now France than the French King.
