'Has no idea what he's doing': Bolt calls out Bowen's backflip on offshore wind farms

Sky News host Andrew Bolt has called out Chris Bowen over the Energy Minister’s backflip on offshore wind farms, after he had to slash the size of his planned offshore wind farm zone off western Victoria by 80 per cent.

Mr Bolt said last year the Climate Change and Energy Minister “laughed off claims” that the massive offshore wind farms he wants built all along our coast might actually harm whales.

“Nonsense, he scoffed – well, fast forward to this morning when Bowen slipped out a press statement announcing his latest whoopsie,” he said.

“Good heavens, he’s just had to slash the size of his planned offshore wind farm zone off western Victoria by 80 per cent. You see, it turns out the whales are a real worry, after all.”

Mr Bolt said the backflip today proves Mr Bowen is a “smart alec and landscape-wrecker with no idea what he’s doing from one day to the next”.

  1. The answer is not to retrofit clean energy onto a fossil fuel based economy, i think they need to build towns that are NOT based around cars but a more eco friendly sustainable model. There is no doubt in my mind that tar and concrete roads and buildings are creating a thermal map across the earth that by turning to EVs will NEVER solve. It won't, it can't, electric cars only solve a small percentage of the problem, and windfarms don't address core issues with how we use energy in the first place, namely fridges, air con, tvs. etc

  2. So a few Aboriginals can stop gas production in the north ( supported by the Government sponsored environmental defenders office ) because of whale song lines, but apparently whales don’t sing along the East coast ? Where are the Aboriginals to defend the east coast whales?

  3. The next stage of their climate scam building this polluting wind and solar structure will in approximately 15-20 years will be the clean up. After the clean up the transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich will be completed. Remember! You WILL own nothing and be happy. THEY TOLD YOU.

  4. Bowen is a fool. How is he in charge of anything. If it was the private sector, he would be nowhere near upper management, he would have been sacked years ago from the storeroom.

  5. Chris Bowen logic, "we will build renewables by destroying the natural habitat of native animals and farmland and increase power prices to try to stop carbon, which is a basic necessity of our planet and of which our country produces such a minute amount that stopping carbon production here will have absolutely no impact on the world climate."

  6. Sexy fingers Bowen, everything he touches he F%#!?. The cost to build off shore wind is through the roof and the maintenance cost is even more. We will never have cheaper power prices going down this track. Nuke.

  7. I think everyone has missed the point that the Victorian government didnt do their job by getting the environmental box ticked before signing on for the project. Not a Labor fan by any means but why blame Bowen for fixing Victorias stuff up?

  8. Congratulations, we've exposed once again that people are gifted positions in which they have little to no basic or fundamental experience and all the tax payers expense, both long and short term.

  9. Great news for the people of Port McDonell in SA who campaigned to stop this wind farm. So much misinformation pours out of this government and its media arm the ABC. I am so pleased that this wind farm has been stopped from extending into SA but saddened that this Victorian iconic coastline is to be forever damaged by this stupidity. Where are the Greens in this? In past years they would have been very vocal in protecting wild life.

  10. I think the problem could be the solution. Government is potentially budgeting billions of dollar for external renewable power. If I could play PM or environmental minister for a day I’d say let’s spend that billions putting solar on everyone’s roof, battery in every home. Then the consumer can make their own power, store it and then even provide it to the grid. In other words use the space we have. Crap it may take years, but I’m sure it would help to lower some cost of living as well.

Yet we can't even think to build one on a peaceful and stable continent.

  12. Interestingly my brother works on the water both here and Europe and has noticed in the last decade issues with actual aggression from marine mammals increasing. Best he can figure is the exponential increase in locating equipment on ships but also on private vessels of all sizes. Throw in the mass beachings of whales etc on various coasts globally and you need to start to wonder what’s going on.
Stands to reason they rely on sonar to navigate and are extraordinarily sensitive to small changes and suddenly we start blasting signals everywhere. It would be like living in the middle of a 24/7 construction site in the dark with no respite. You’d be cranky, in pain and disorientated.

  13. I recently read a study that shows off shore wind farms not only disrupt the migratory patterns of animals but change tidal patterns. This will affect ocean grasses, coral production and sands being deposited on beaches. So not only could we see our ocean life destroyed but also our beaches disappear. Destroying the planet to save it. Lunacy at its best.

  14. Andrew, get some guests on with practical knowledge of actual costs, reliability, output and environmental/eco diversity damage caused by these Chinese made monstrosities. Smash the Bowen ideology right in the nose with the brutal facts on windfarms including the massive taxpayer subsidies paid to ideologue billionaires for initial building and carbon offset certificates. Anyone with half a brain will be horrified. Anyone supporting the policy is an environmental and economic vandal, just like Chris Bowen.

  15. A recent unearthed study suggests EV’s are far worse for the environment by way of emissions than ICE vehicles. The extra weight of the batteries puts huge wear and tear on tyres and brakes which results in greater emissions than the gases that come out of a modern tail pipe. 😎👊👍🇦🇺

  17. Blackout Bowen is an environmental disaster. He is an absolute maniac who is determined to destroy Australia's farms, forests, wildenerss, wildlife and ocean habitats, with zero conscience and for absolutely no practical reason, other than to ultimately deindustrialise Australia and make his billionnair mates more wealthy.
