  2. I am so so glad that this movie doesn’t have the same ending of the book. I read the book and had to put it away halfway through cause it was so bad I couldn’t finish it and I looked up the ending and was so pissed to find out how it ends & so glad I never finished it

I love how darkly comedic and savage Hannibal can be with his victims. Even in a film like this Anthony Hopkins just brings his A-Game, this has to be one of his best roles

Also the scene where Hannibal lobotomises Krendler and cooks part of his brain and feeds it to him as he just slowly devolves into a childlike manner and then barely capable of making sounds and speech, terrified and disgusted me the first time I watched this film. It has to be one of the worst and horrific ways to go.

  4. Man, this movie is, like…not good, but you line every individual element of it up in a row (starting with Julianne Moore whose casting is genius, I mean, I love Jodi Foster, but I think she was right that she couldn't have done a Clarice Starling who'd collapsed in on herself; just try to imagine Jodi Foster delivering "Thinking about cannibalism" in a way that's not so camp it engulfs the whole movie in flames). Huge chunks of the movie are actually pretty good but, as happens with Ridley Scott movies post 2000, it just never really gels.

  5. Manhunter wasn't terrible. If they had called it Red Dragon and actually put more effort into it, it would have done just fine. Also, Hannibal has reconstructive surgery on his face in the books to change his appearance, which was why he was so hard to catch. The book didn't just randomly place them together. Hannibal heavily manipulates Starling over a long period of time and by the end she is 100% whipped.

  6. I remember one day I was smoking a cigarette outside watching hannibal on my phone as we do in this generation and sometimes ill feel slightly light headed smoking cigarettes ( I don't recommend ) and they got to the Ray Liotta brain scene and I legitimately passed out on my porch. The gore just was too much.

  7. When I saw this movie for the first time, I really hated it. It was way too confusing and hard to follow. The brain scene disgusted me, and they didn't catch Hannibal, which really ticked me off.
Although looking back… maybe this movie wasn't as awful as I thought… at least it tried to disturb me, which I can appreciate.
