Hacker Will Be Paying Nintendo One-Third of His Paycheck for the Rest of His Life – IGN Daily Fix

On today’s Daily Fix:
Gary Bowser, a man sentenced in 2021 to 40 months in prison and a $14.5 million fine for his role in Nintendo hacking group Team Xecuter, has just been released from jail. But it’s possible the massive amount of money he now owes in restitution may impact the entire rest of his life and livelihood. Nintendo’s latest Indie World Showcase just wrapped up, providing release dates for some long-delayed games along with a handful of surprise releases in the indie version of the company’s popular Nintendo Direct format. Finally, Atari has acquired the intellectual property rights to over 100 PC and console games from the 1980s and 1990s, including multiple titles from the platforming series Bubsy, the baseball series Hardball, and the vehicular combat series Demolition Racer.

  1. Jesus hell, screams the saying "punishment should fit the crime" and this sends the message that irritating a big corporation carries greater penalties than drugs, trafficking, domestic abuse etc

  2. Do you know what this means right? The future has changed Central, for (you know what) is now a measurable, as you now stirred up, spite Nintendo in the entire community

    That can only go badly

  3. It is sad to see. Sure the guy did something illegal. But this isn't a punishment of justice. This is cruel. There's no rehabilitation, it's all about Nintendo making an example out of someone. There's no incentive for Gary Bowser to stay on the legal side of things if he's gonna be punished forever anyway.

    Be better, Nintendo.
