Gunsmith Breaks Down Escape From Tarkov's Shotguns!

Brownells Gun Techโ„ข Caleb Savant again joins forces with video gamer, Twitch streamer, and YouTuber Jesse Halteman, aka JesseKazam, to discuss the depiction of shotguns in the video game โ€œEscape from Tarkov.โ€ Shotguns are not as common as rifles in Tarkov โ€“ and may be underrated weapons because of that โ€“ but just as in real life, they can be used with devastating effect. Two of the most popular models in the game are the Remington 870 and the Russian Saiga 12. The advantage of the Saiga is that itโ€™s fed by a detachable magazine, AND if youโ€™re running an AK-47 as your rifle, the Kalashnikov-based Saiga operates the same way. Caleb explains the differences between Russian and American shotgun shells, and he gives us an overview of the shotgunโ€™s versatility and effectiveness as a weapon. The physical damage it can inflict is imitated in the deadly โ€œLeg Metaโ€ in the game, especially if youโ€™re packing a Russian KS-23 shotgun, which shoots a shell approximately the size of a U.S. 6 gauge. (The biggest shotshell Caleb can show us is an 8 gauge). The guys survey the shotshell types available in the game, including the armor-piercing AP20 slug round. This only scratches the surface; there are PLENTY of possible future shotgun / shotshell options that can be added to โ€œEscape from Tarkov.โ€

Bonus: Donโ€™t miss Calebโ€™s personal recollection of how a shotgun can be more psychologically intimidating than a Browning .50 caliber machinegun!

  2. Shotguns in Tarkov are probably the best representation of a shotgun in gaming. Perfect? No, but they do a pretty damn good job. They are actually effective beyond 10 yards unlike most games. Getting a kill at 50 meters with buckshot is just a good feeling, but they really shine up close. Cheap and easy to use for budget runs and when you want a reliable firearm. Recently I've been running flechette and buckshot mix that really rips people apart in close quarters.

I expect they will get used even more when the proper armor system is added. Suddenly there will be a lot more "flesh" to hit with the buckshot around the armor plates.

  3. I loved how you put into perspective how massive the KS-23 shotgun shell is!! It would have been cool to have mentioned Rifled vs Unrifled Shotguns and their relative effects on projectile dispersal. But darn great episode. I WANT MORE!!

  4. I canโ€™t get over how much Jessie looks like Justin from JMAC Customs. Itโ€™s definitely the beard but still haha. I love this series though, as a gun enthusiast, gamer, and long time Brownells fan and customer itโ€™s just great ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
