Kalashnikovs and SKSes and Mosin-Nagants and….. oh my! Video gamer, Twitch streamer, and YouTuber Jesse Halteman, aka JesseKazam, again joins Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant, this time to take a look at the RUSSIAN firearms available to players of the “Escape from Tarkov” video game. Playing the game taught Jesse a whole lot about the AK-47, SKS and Mosin-Nagant, and now he gets hands on these legendary firearms in real life. In the game, the Mosin-Nagant is cheap, readily available, and powerful. For the player who has good marksmanship skills, it can be a literal one-shot “game-changer.” A very accurate representation of the Mosin-Nagant’s real-world status! “Escape from Tarkov” is so immersive it requires the player to choose the specific LOAD for the ammo in their rifle’s magazines, so the guys compare the Mosin’s 7.62x54R round to the AK-47’s and SKS’s 7.62x39mm cartridge. The SKS is one of the cheap guns a new Tarkov player can get, and some of the 7.62×39 load options for it can be extremely devastating. And just like real life, you can trick out your SKS with an optic, better stock, detachable magazine, etc. The AK-47 is a classic firearm option not only in “Escape from Tarkov” but in pretty much any other video game. Just like IRL, you can modify it and upgrade it in a gazillion ways, as well as choosing from a bewildering array of loads. You can also choose between the classic AKM, an AK-74 in 5.45×39, an AK-101 / AK-102 chambered in 5.56 NATO, or a CMMG Mutant Mk47 AR-15 type rifle that shoots 7.62×39!

Is the Mosin an original imperial Mosin "M1891 / 3-Line Rife", because of the teeth at the sight and the octagonal chamber?
7:33 After the second word war the Soviet union originally wanted 4 weapons all chambered in 7,62x41mm (yes 41mm case length). A bolt action rifle, a self loading rifle, a light machinegun and an "avtomat" an assault rifle also capable of doing sub machinegun stuff. The weapons were developed and testes. In 1948 all the weapons were nearly already done, the carriage showed insufficient accuracy in arctic conditions. The bulled had to be longer hand heavier to work. The problem was now, that all the nearly finished weapons had to be redesign, to work with the now longer cartridge. To prevent this the case was shortened the amount the bullet was enlarged. So the 7,62x41mm became the 7,62x39mm we all know today. This chance hat certain effects on the guns now rechambered for the 39mm case length. The bolt action rifle was dropped completely, the self loading rifle (SKS) was now insufficient in range as well as the light machinegun (RPD). But the "Avtomat" (AK) had profited from the shorter cartridge, because is was much more controllable then the AK-46 in 7,62x41mm. Because of that the Soviet army ditched the original plan, equipping every soldier with an SKS and only squad leaders and certain special forces with AKs, and equipped everyone with an AK. Because of production issued with the AK, the SKS served as a ad hoc stop gab.
Glad to see more people becoming interested in firearms, recently my buddy told me that he'd only ever shot for watch standing quals so I took him out to the desert and we dumped a few hundred rounds through every gun I own then bought him a bcg for Christmas and told him next time we go out to bring his own gun 😂 he loves it, every time I see him he's putting together a new build list
Wait! Does Brownell's have a fricken' M98 Javelin ATGM in the safe?
this is awesome, its good to see different communities get into the 2A world. the gaming community i think is great addition to this. much like older generations that got into guns simply because of the movies or tv shows that they would watch.
cant stop smiling just like them
nice open minded view to other areas
Mosin has an amazing development history just like the Berdan rifle that came before it.
We could have a free country if we got rid of the nazi Democrats and FBI/ATF
I love this series so much.
Never played the game.. but I got all three of these venerable old beauties. And they all Rock!
Reminds me of a couple friends. One eventually bought a Glock. Normally that's not a problem but dude is a complete idiot. I'm not an instructor so when he wanted range time I declined. My advice was complete hunters safety course or other safety training. The advice wasn't received well. He knows it all.
love it
mosin trigger move much geez how does it retain sear engagement @ 2:31
Next ep let's get some information that's not in the first paragraphs on Wikipedia.
SKS and AK rifle are best rifles
In short: way too much recoil.
Caleb knows all about the russian goo, cosmoline! Its the perfect hair treatment. haha looks like calebs hair twin too!
To liven this up a lil, maybe do real comparisons between video game version and real versions, thatd be great. And show actual mods in both vid and real life
Dang, now I'm interested in the game. Have to do some research on what it takes to get started.
😁👍☕
WOW someone asking if a Mosen was produced in large numbers……………these are the people who argue with me in chats about weapons when I have fired a LOT of different weapons in real life.
Excellent!!
Fun fact only mosins that grouped above average from the factory were converted to sniper variants
This is not a crossover I would have ever expected, but I love it.
wouldve loved to see jesse shoot the ak
I have always loved firearms, but this game made me go gun crazy.
2:30 why is the mosins trigger shaking when he’s working the bolt 😂😂
I’d never imagine I’d see Jesse Kazam on a brownells video and I couldn’t be happier
Im Glad this game is helping people to know how firearms work and what works with them ammo wise/accessories
The Mosin also has the infamous 'obrez' stock and barrel in the game, an old way of turning your rifle into a concealable, makeshift 'pistol'/short-barreled rifle.
Not super practical for long range shooting, but it's something I could see real-life 'scavs' or bandits using in a scenario like Tarkov.
