  1. Simon: It's almost impossible that you haven't heard mariachi.

Me, a New Yorker that takes the trains to go to work, visibly shaking and sweating during a PTSD flashback of having three of the mariachi train bands back to back on my commute home from a double when all I want to do is take a nap before I have to go back in for my next shift.

  2. JAJAJAJAJA i love you!!!!! "Most everywhere in Mexico is safe for "gringo" tourists as long as you dont try anything silly like trying to buy cocaine" lol funny but also really true!!!! 😀 as a mexican i thank you a lot for helping demystifying that if you come to Mexico you're gonna die, the truth is you're going to have a great time and there is so much you can visit and learn!!! 😀

  3. Fun fact. Guadalajara experienced a mass UFO sighting at the exact same date the Nimitz saw the tic tac UFO flying over the ocean and they also State look out over there there's an entire fleet of them

  4. I love your work Simon but I'm changing you're name to "El Carnicero" because gawd damn you butchered so many names.

  5. You neglected to mention one of Guadalajara's most celebrated athletes, the former world #1 golfer Lorena Ochoa. Why she suddenly decided to retire after only 7 years on the LPGA Tour when she was still on top just to start a family still baffles golf fans, but she's never regretted her decision.

  6. If anyone ever visits and has a sweet tooth, go to downtown Guadalajara to a bakery called Alfredo's, very near the cathedral, they have the MOST AMAZING chocolate croissants you've ever had!!
It looks like a normal croissant but it has a CHONKY chocolate interior…man…they're like 20 mxn, it's just a little less than 1 usd dollar.

But if you're more of a Tequila fan, José Cuervo and Jimador have a train tour to visit their Hacienda-Destilería and you can take it from Guadalajara's train station.

  7. I fly into GDL multiple times a year . It’s a massive city . My family’s hometown is about 2 hours away. So I have never really spent a lot of time there just about 3-4 hours each time I fly in and out . Now I’m interested in perhaps spending a weekend there.
