Greta Van Fleet "Starcatcher" Album Review ( Can we stop with the Led Zeppelin comparisons now?)

Let’s discuss Greta Van Fleet, the young rock band that has made a significant impact in recent years. Initially, they were labeled as a Led Zeppelin clone, but as time passed, people began to recognize them as a passionate group seeking to revive the classic rock sounds of the early 70s.
Their latest offering, “Starcatcher,” marks their third album, which was released on July 21, 2023, through Lava and Republic Records. Produced by Dave Cobb, known for his work with artists like Chris Stapleton and Brandi Carlile, the album was recorded at RCA Studios in Nashville.
“Starcatcher” showcases the band’s growth with a more experimental sound, and it delves into personal and introspective themes unlike their previous works. Greta Van Fleet has stated that this album represents their most determined effort to date. Before the album’s release, they launched four singles.
The first single, “Meeting the Master,” was released in April 2023. It carries a psychedelic rock feel with soft acoustic guitar and folk-rock elements reminiscent of the late 60s. “Sacred the Thread,” the second single, released on May 19, 2023, begins with a drum intro that summons the spirit of John Bonham and features Zeppelinesque guitar riffs. The third single, “Farewell For Now,” released on June 9, 2023, is a blues rock piece that stands out for its impressive guitar tone. Finally, “The Falling Sky,” the fourth single released on June 27, 2023, is a powerful and reminiscent track of their earlier work, featuring Josh’s remarkable vocal performance and a touch of blues rock with harmonica elements.
Overall, “Starcatcher” demonstrates the band’s maturity as they venture more into the realm of Psychedelic Rock, moving away from the Led Zeppelin comparisons. While they continue to pay homage to the late 60s and early 70s sound, Greta Van Fleet is gradually establishing their own musical identity. The effort they put into the compositions on this album is evident, resulting in a cohesive and impressive record. With only a few albums under their belt, this is undoubtedly one of their best works. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments, and if you enjoyed the video, please give it a thumbs up as it helps with the algorithm. 1. This album is really good. But it didn't hit my top 10 because many of the albums that were already released were really awesome. Top 15 for sure though. The only bands that could hit the top best albums of the year are Cannibal Corpse and Dying Fetus. Cannibal Corpse already announced a new album after they released one of the songs for the new album a month ago and Dying Fetus just announced a couple of days ago that they will be releasing a new album September 8. Cannibal Corpse September 22. Can't wait for these 2 new albums. A lot of the best albums have been from bands that have been around for many years.

  2. Hey John! The music's not bad, but I don't think I'll ever be able to get past his voice. I know I'm not alone with that sentiment. I'm guessing their looks help them, but I think I'll always see them as a hard rock boy band.

  3. They have LZ influences for sure, but also influences from blues greats that many of the British invasion groups evolved from. Consider GVF a continuation of 70s rock which many have been clamoring for. Josh has his own sound, more melodic and a higher range than Robert Plant. As matures, I get more of a Jon Anderson and Ann Wilson vibe from his singing. The other members are much more developed as musicians over the past 5 years or so. Touring around the world to big crowds certainly helps.

  4. I really became a fan of their last album “battle”. The new album is really disappointing after a couple of listens. There are a couple of very good tunes like Sacred The Thread and the mesmeric Meeting The Master. The Archer is quite good too but the rest annoys me quite a bit hehe! Oh well GVF have lost me again…

  5. I think I would appreciate this band more if they didn't sound like…. Why listen to a knockoff when you can hear the original. Sorry GVF fans just my opinion. If you dig it -more power to you.

  6. Sacred the thread is when the levy breaks, I can’t get past that, the indigo streak has a great riff but the vocals tank the meeting the master is cool, the archer is great
