  1. It’s a beautiful song and video and makes you think. And I do think Josh delivers an amazing vocal performance. I believe this is a cautionary tale against following a cult-like figure (the master). They just released a video of their first live performance of this song (concert performance in Anaheim). And they sound amazing on this live as well. Very talented band.

  2. I love this song! I’ve seen many interpretations people have, but this is what the band said it’s about.

“‘Meeting The Master’ peers into an esoteric world heeded by the word of a wise teacher," begins the band in a collective statement, "Sung in the voice of a devout believer, and eventual group exclamation, the song details the love these fervent followers have for their teacher and their firm belief in his vision. It’s an exotic spiritual journey. A dark comedy that inevitably ends in chaos.”

  3. I’ve noticed a lot of people who either weren’t sure, didn’t like them, or wanted to see a different side of them come back and express their appreciation for this band now after hearing this song and I think that’s just amazing. I really think this is their time, this upcoming album is going to thrust them further into the mainstream- at least, I hope it does. 😄

  4. He kniows how to use his head voice perfectly. Using his upper larynx while using his diaphram so well sustains his notes and at times you will notice in live performances he leans back and really fully engages his diaphram. There are some singers you never have to worry about hitting a 'bum' note.

  5. Listen to all of Battle at Heaven's Gate. No sacrifice here. They are very into nature and spiritual. The lyrics are mostly written by Josh. The more you listen to them, the more you will understand what their ethos is.

  6. The talent of GVF is something that has been missing in the last couple of decades overall with exceptions. This band is 3 young brothers with a close family friend as the 4th. Raised with parents full of tradition of exposing them to all types of music at an early age in rural Michigan with parents promoting their talents to the fullest at an early age believing anything was possible. Their talent has surpassed anything I’ve heard as they continue to grow and mesmerize all listeners across all age groups. I pray that their grounded foundation keeps them from getting involved with the pitfalls many bands who have achieved early success find themselves in with temptations leading to addictions without a strong foundation, discipline, maturity, and learning from others mistakes. Josh’s Voice surpasses anything I’ve heard maybe ever.

  7. GVF always lets the listener determine the meaning of their songs for themselves. It’s different for everyone. Their music is so uplifting and they are all each so extremely talented in their craft as musicians and songwriters.

  8. There's nothing Satanic, no. They put most of their songs in a kind of vague fantasy setting. In my opinion, I think they do this so that the song can not only be interpreted many different ways, but when they are commenting on the human condition they are not pointing fingers at any specific group of people. The band has said this song is a "dark comedy" and it is a cautionary tale about how obsessive devotion inevitably leads to "chaos".
