Gremlins is a 1984 American comedy horror film directed by Joe Dante, written by Chris Columbus and starring Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, Hoyt Axton, Polly Holliday and Frances Lee McCain, with Howie Mandel providing the voice of Gizmo, the main mogwai character. It draws on legends of folkloric mischievous creatures that cause malfunctions—”gremlins”—in the British Royal Air Force going back to World War II. The story follows young man Billy Peltzer, who receives a strange creature as a pet, which then spawns other creatures that transform into aggressive, imp-like monsters that wreak havoc on Billy’s hometown during Christmas Eve.

  1. The following are the musings of a Salty SEAGULL named EARL who just shows up in my posts whenever he feels like it!
[EARL the Salty SEAGULL:] "15:11 – "Imagine if she had actually thrown the water at them! It would have basically made more of them to terrorize her!" 15:41 – "I really am surprised they didn't create a Gremlin model with a visible penis! Still I guess it does make sense for them not to have genitals given they can reproduce asexually by just getting splashed with water!" 18:23 – "Classic NC! Couldn't resist a jab at Disney's stupid CGI with live action remake of Snow White!" 18:41 – "KATE your not HELPING! May you should just stand around telling oddly comedic yet tramatic for you stories from your childhood! Seriously its like 80s films were allergic to any female other than the final girl in a slasher film, Ellen Ripley, or Sarah Conner being useful!"

  2. This has been the absolute year from Hell for me, also. I got in an at-fault car accident back in March, suffered a ruptured appendix, sepsis, and a blood clot in my leg in April, plus a long, painful recovery, got an infection in the stomach incision and had to have it drained, so another hospital stay, went into diabetic ketoacidosis over Thanksgiving when my insulin pump crapped out 1,500 miles from home and they couldn't overnight me a new one because of the holiday, so I spent the last half of my Florida vacation in the hospital, and I just spent Christmas eve in absolute misery, waiting in an insanely crowded ER for 12 hours with severe nausea and on no sleep waiting for treatment and now we think I may have gastroperesis…

So yeah, I can 1000% relate. But we had our postponed Christmas get-together earlier this evening, where I was surrounded by the people who I couldn't have made it through any of this past year without, the people who loved me enough to stick it all out with me, and it just made me stop and realize that, at the very least, I didn't go through all that Hell alone, and that counts for more than I could ever fully articulate in words.

    Happy holidays, everyone ❤

  3. I understand 2024 being an awful year and this holiday season just sucking. Spent my last xmas alone in the family house before selling it to a new family. As of writing this I am now homeless, in a motel. Just rotten luck from a god awful year. 2025 better be better and soon

  4. I love that the town square is the one used in Back to the Future. You can tell in the title shot where you can see the town hall/clock tower. Hard to see with all the snow but the movie theatre they blow all the Gremlins up in is the one Marty drive Deleoron into after going back to the future.

  5. Ok so I little theory I have on this and the sequel, Billy’s dad inadvertently killed the Chinese shop owner. He gave the guy a smokeless ash tray as a gift and we see that it doesn’t work and in fact increases the amount of smoke if anything, we even see a guy use one and fall into a coughing fit. In the sequel the owner is coughing up a storm and dies really quickly, I imagine the smokeless ash tray may have given him some form of smoke inhalation and slowly killed him
