Things that were great in this movie: -The equipment they created. The story about the CIA thinking it was real is true. -The progression of the Wolverines from "scared kids" to battle-weary guerillas. -The score.
Things that were not great in this movie: -The acting in most parts. -The purely magical grenade throwing throughout. -The ending.
I was 12 years old when this one was released, and it definitely stoked my childhood imagination. In the US Army of the 1990s you couldn't really get through a training exercise without "Wolverines!" being shouted at least once.
Don't know how familiar you all are with this one, but the character of Walter in "The Big Lebowski" was based on John Milius, the director of this film. Milius also wrote the screenplay for "Apocalypse Now", although it was subjected to heavy re-writes by director Francis Ford Coppola.
@2:10, I’ve heard the director asked Swayze to think about the death of his real father. Swayze’s dad Jesse had passed away a year before this movie went into production.
Great series. As a former soldier, I always wanted to get the perspective of movies like this from member of special forces. Has "Air Force One been reviewed? I want to hear a review of the opening mission, I can imagine what will be said about the rest of the movie.
2:15, the Dad would've gotten his sons caught and killed he tried to have them get bolt cutters. He wanted his kids to be strong and avenge him. Remember, they are high school kids. They aren't soldiers. 8:30, he's paraphrasing Emiliano Zapata who said "It's better to die upon your feet than to live upon your knees!". He wanted them to die stand up and fighting not die begging on their knees.
When these guys call it murder when the captive is shot is complete nonsense. Their homeland has been invaded, they're not on some foreign battlefield. I'd shoot the SOB too…
Shame you didn't show the scene where one of the kids betrayed their own. I remember watching this movie as a kid in the 90s. That was a rough scene where they were arguing over executing a captured Soviet and their childhood friend. Charlie Sheen's character: "What's the difference between us and them?!" Patrick Swayze's character: "We live here!" BANG
The remake was a good movie just not a good Red Dawn movie. If it had been named something else, that would've been much better. It's a popcorn flick. Red Dawn OG, is so much more and the ending is still sad to this day. They didn't do it justice with the remake.
5:49 that particular scene is actually a catch-22 because they couldn't take him prisoner either they had no place to keep him captive where he wouldn't have been able to escape and they didn't have enough resources to keep him fed he would have been more of a liability as a prisoner so it's one of those he was damned if he did damned if he didn't type situations
These guys are criticizing parts of the movies that have nothing to do with military operations they are just drunk ex cooks in the army who think people care about there shiitty opinions. You earned yourself a dislike…..
looking for more of a tactical review? we did that on this version. Enjoy!

How can you be SF and have never seen this movie? Lame.

A reaction to Three Kings would be interesting. It isn't a true story but based in the first US Iraq war.
Good memories, grew up with this movie !!!

In the movie, the Russian Jet that Tilts upward is supposed to be a Russian YAK-38 which is a real plane that can take off vertically.
