California grandmother Amy Gubser, who started marathon swimming 10 years ago as an escape from hectic shifts as a pediatric nurse, put her name in the record books after completing a 29.7-mile swim through frigid, shark-infested waters from the Golden Gate Bridge in the San Francisco Bay to the remote Farallon Islands. NBC’s Morgan Chesky shares her journey on TODAY.

Wow what an inspirational story this woman is really incredible. Doing hard things doesn't have to equate to doing crazy things. I think this was incredibly dangerous and risky. But she followed her passion and for that. I really admire her. I also have tremendous respect for her. As a nurse, a mother and grandmother and friend, what an amazing woman she defied the odds.
This is extremely deceptive and over hyped. Listen closely to last 4 minutes. She hired FIVE shark watchers to ride a boat alongside her, constantly monitoring for sharks. Pretty easy to survive when you got 5 people ready to warn you so that you could hop out of water at any time. It's like the people who climb Mt. Everest. The cool ones are the ones who do it with ZERO oxygen tanks. In this case, if this were Everest she had unlimited oxygen tanks and Sherpas helping her
There is no way I am going to glorify this. To each their own, but that is too much risk in that area.
That's a TOUGH paddle in a kayak. How did she swim all that? The water is cold and rough.
Amazing!
Not too bright, Sharks are eating more people than ever.
I didn’t know this was a choice 😂
What a remarkable woman! And what a legacy. amazing!
Wow she’s an amazing woman.
No walls, in water with fish hooti.
No police to save you…buddy
Grandma power congrats ❤❤❤ much love
Shark invested waters? 😂😂 they just live there.
Men couldn’t even swim from Alcatraz to the shore 😂😂
I don't know how this woman was able to deal with the thought of the sharks. I mean swimming on the surface in these waters is incredibly dangerous. To be able to swim all that way and suppress those thoughts is about as impressive as it gets.
This is so stupid. Not heroic. Putting yourself at risk for others to applaud you is like serious attention seeking weirdness
Just hearing she is a nurse, i knew she would make it. If you are not a nurse, you have NO clue what she endures during 1 shift.
Wow.
She could easily escape from Alcatraz.
All oceanic waters are shark infested waters. >_>
Congratulations ❤
I was sure this was a ship wreck incident 🤣 Insane thing to do especially at her age. Truly a strong woman .
Not very smart to swim here the red triangle! I would not encourage people to to do this!
She lived my worst fear and did it intentionally.. mad respect!
Super 👍❤
Normalize not using the term "shark-infested" it's the ocean of course there are sharks there.
Grandma Goggins
She’s related to trump….
Why?
This is not bravery, this is stupidity at its best.
That’s not a grandma that’s a goldfish 😊 incredible!!
What an amazing woman.
