The Grand Canyon is the same kind of scar across Mars. It's not a water erosion. Even geologists agree this river could not have done this sculpting even if billions of years. Water seeks it's own depth. The land pushes up and the river erodes down if erosion were the case. But such land upheaval isn't demonstrated in the geology. It fits the rest of the mountain range in proportions.
Mars is proposed to have been damage by electrical discharge shown in the way zig zagging canyon off shoots are arranged typical of electrical discharge damage that we know in the lab.
