I think this was the last time Steffi ever played at Amelia Island. It was also Gabi's last ever win over Steffi. The rainy weather has meant that Steffi had to finish off a very tough semi final match against Arantxa earlier that day, whereas Gabi had a much easier semi final match against Conchita.
Stefanie is the best mover on clay imo the women have ever had. So fast, such small quick steps, that incredible glide when she slides, I think Clijsters or Henin may have been faster but Stefanie definitly had it better.
Maybe just because I'm American, but I think I miss Amelia Island the most of any discontinued tennis events. It was one of the most beautiful locations of any tennis tournament, was won by many of the all time greats, and always helped herald the coming of spring.
