GPS to track Sri Lankan fish fleet

The Albanese government will provide GPS trackers to the Sri Lankan authorities to monitor fishing boats used by people smugglers to bring asylum seekers to Australia.

Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil announced the move after a visit to meet Sri Lankan authorities.

The system will help fishermen confirm their catches were legitimately caught – while ensuring criminal syndicates did not use their boats.

  2. Riigghhttttt. So they will say to these subsistence fishermen not to remove these GPS trackers, and to ensure they stay powered whenever at sea, because Albo says so….. Don't even think of removing them and selling them….. Because Albo might get mad…. So the Masters of these vessels who are considering running the gauntlet of the Sri Lankan and Australian maritime forces to make big bucks are not going to try it because of Albo's GPS….and will apparently keep it running as they make their dash eastward…. What f^%$en planet are these people living on! If this is the level of thought going into our border protection policy, then get ready for 3 years of calamity on our oceans again!
