Government ‘not making the progress’ it expected with renewables

The government is “not making the progress” it expected to see with the transition to renewable energy, says Centre for Independent Studies’ Aidan Morrison.

Mr Morrison’s remarks come after carbon emissions from electricity generation rose in the March quarter.

“It shows that the energy transition to try to rush in a whole bunch of renewable energy generators to our system is just slowing down,” he told Sky News Australia.

“We’re not on track currently to meet the targets.

“So, this is the first example of that slowing down and stalling of the transition really showing its head here.”

  1. NOT WINDY ENOUGH ? COAL POWERED GENERATORS KEEP THE BLADES SPINNING. TOO WINDY ? WIND TURBINES ARE SHUT DOWN – OR THEY BREAK..
SOLAR ? NOT SUNNY ENOUGH ? NO ELECTRICTY. TOO SUNNY ? PANELS' LIFE SPAN & GENERATING CAPACITY ARE REDUCED. HAIL & WIND ? PANELS GO TO LANDFILL..

  2. Solution is to keep coal running at an even rate but install very big capacity stationary storage including heat capacitors up to 100 GWh which can then be tapped at any time RE is low. That will stabilise and firm the grid indefinitely out to 2050.

  3. I have a battery backup and can say it's Supply and Demand, everybody and every town needs a battery. the town ones should be bigger based on the population and designed to pick up all variables in power in excess of or in supply to etc. We all live locally why not work locally. A model needs to be done on the new developments with a on/off switch approach and capability. Then if trails work out well; rolled out over all grids. The power stations or central battery town location can also have swap batteries for cheap scooter transport battery swap overs, like in China. Pay swap and go – no attendants. 24/7

  4. Isn't it funny how our Premier in S.A said that we have 75 % renewables in South Australia ….Yet we have the highest cost to consumer in all Australia..so why are they supposed to be cheaper

  5. Battery storage is the Achilles heel of Bowen's plans. It is simply impossible for it to provide a meaningful supply of electricity . To power NSW on batteries alone for 24 hours will buy half a dozen nuclear power stations.

  6. True because CC is a very difficult problem to solve but at least some people are having a go rather than straight out denying it and sitting back like Pa bear on the back of a 3 seat bike!

  7. Surely the BOM can, with a high degree of certainty predict weather up to three days out. The man with the hand on the igniter and foot on the throttle can gun the gas generator in anticipation😅.

  8. Half a million extra migrants make a difference per year. Both governments are not up to the energy reliance of Australia. Wind and solar are not reliable. The investors are waiting for the guaranteed taxpayer money. Want 100% reliable energy ,Nuclear is the clear winner and if the planet was in such danger they would not consider cost they would do it.

  9. There is a Bit going on, but is it the Right Things.
In Terms of Bang for Our Bucks, We Continue to do Large Numbers of Small Scale Solar on Houses, Businesses Etc. This Choice give us about Half the Green Solar Energy We would get from the Same Spend but on Large Scale in One of Australia's Very Sunny Locations.
    Solar Economics 101.

  10. Malcolm Turnbull gave the game away the other week. When he said that nuclear is a constant power source.
They want renewables so they can control the prices, by restivting how much pwer goes out, so prices can remain at whatever level they want to charge. With constant power flowing, they'd have to charge a lot less for power as it would be in abundance, making people's power prices lower.

  11. Wikipedia says the Centre for Independent Studies is allied to the Liberal Party. Why is SKy unable to ever interview an independent group or have two opposing views on at once. It is always right wing.
