Gotham City: Evolution in Adaptations

I walk through of how Gotham City has been depicted in comic history and how television and film have adapted it (the original 2021 upload had a few audio issues I’ve fixed)

  1. If I were making a Batman movie or TV show, the Gotham City skyline would look like a combination between Philadelphia, PA. and London, England. As far as the seedier side of the city, I'm thinking the worst parts of Detroit and Chicago.

  2. I enjoyed this video and the channel seems cool. However, the video says it was released days ago and yet seems like it was recorded before The Batman was even shot. Any chance this can be updated because The Batman honestly created the best tone and Gotham.

  3. I have a big obsession with Gotham and I’m very serious about how it’s depicted. There can be multiple different versions of Gotham that all depict Gotham in their own way and can still perfectly capture the character of the city. But they have to hit the nail right. I absolutely love Arkham City’s Gotham, but I HATE Arkham Knight’s Gotham.

  4. Great video. What I remember about the Birds of Prey tv show, I don't think GC really was all that unique as a setting compared to the other tv shows and movies. Maybe something reminiscent of the Arrow series. As for Titans, it truly looked liked Hell, especially season 1.

  5. Was this video made before the Matt Reeves’s The Batman released? The video says it was posted 3 weeks ago but the The Batman segment made it sound like the movie hasn’t come out yet so there was barely any talk about it and didn’t show any scenes from the movie which is disappointing because I think it’s the best live action Gotham since Tim Burton’s

  6. On the dark knight rises, I loved the Pittsburgh setting. I live in the Burgh and I always felt it was a plausible setting for the bat. We have the somewhat dark and gritty city. Not criminal, we’re no Philly, the the aesthetic of the city is similar. We’ve got the rivers, the smog, high rises, etc. TLDR my biases make me love it lol

  7. I grew up watching Batman the animated series, I literally still remember watching any of the episodes for the first time after school and all these years later man I still get chills from.. or at least I just did , while watching that opening with the lightning striking behind Batman With the iconic music Playing. For me Kevin Conroy is the definitive Batman, definitely my favorite.

  8. I've always pictured that Gotham was somewhere wedged between NYC and New Jersey. But I CANNOT picture Metropolis shoved in there as well. To me, Metropolis reflects that time of great American industrial growth and makes more sense to set it near Chicago or Detroit. Somewhere along the same lake, haha
