Fun fact: The woman who plays the lady that Criston and Aemond talk to at the door at about 5:36 was actually Criston’s real life teacher in drama school
Please please react to GOT
1:30 Ben is right. The song of ice and fire is not some Westerosi children's bedtime story that people grow up hearing. It's a top secret prophecy only passed down from a Targaryen king to his heir. Not even the Hands of a king are privy to this information. Not even the queens. To Alicent, her husband mumbling about Aegon uniting the realm and the prince that was promised only had the context of what the name Aegon meant to Alicent – not the legendary conqueror but her firstborn fuckup son. Milk of the poppy made Viserys delirious and thought he was speaking to Rhaynera. Alicent heard what her heart wanted to hear (Aegon II as heir will unite the realm, not Rhaynera), and ran with it.
I hope you guys react to GOT after finishing this one…. We really wanna see Anna reacting to Tyrion 😍
The reason why the white worm (forgot her name) knows the king died and to get Aegon is because her spy in the very beginning scene of this episode, the servant to Alicent. She lit the candles in the window to communicate that Viserys is dead.
Still kind of haunts me that the average viewer spent all of episode 9 waiting for Rhaenyra and Daemon to appear and completely misunderstood the tonality of the episode not realizing that this is the "snatch your candy away" moment and why it had to be all about the Greens. Wasting away that incredible coronation crying about "Rhaenyra bout to show up on a dragon to knock the crown right out of Aegon's head and scream I OBJECT!!!". Peak MCU/Disney brainrot. Then Daemon will carry her to the throne!! Then they will kiss!! Then there will be a song and dance musical!! Like bruh. If Baelor happened now they prolly wud have a dragon scoop in and save Ned so no ones feelings are hurt lol. Ryan Condal don't write the ending of your episode pandering to casuals. Next season it's ok to let the baddies win a little. GoT did this really well. They made you earn the payoff. If there's no dark tunnel then the light at the end of it won't mean much.
The prophecy miscommunication didn't drive the coup. The dinner was a heartfelt gesture where both got carried away in the moment. But it wasn't gonna change the divide over primogeniture. As the show made it clear, plans for the coup were already prepared. The prophecy was simply used by Otto as a propaganda pretext & by Alicent as a self-deluding tool of moral justification. Which goes well with her show character of "hiding behind the cloak of righteousness". It was her trying to convince herself (not others), what she was doing was moral & right. Everyone already knew what was up. It's not that Queen didn't want her son on the throne, she told Rhaenys in no uncertain terms that's what will happen. But she & Otto have two different visions of ruling & to quote what Renly told Ned, "he who holds the king, holds the kingdom".
The point of a war of the roses type dynastic rivalry turned civil war is the process of escalation. Neither side starts of with the intention of killing everyone. But the events force things to spiral out of control. As one side commits something heinous, the other side wants "getback" and it becomes an elevating cycle. Rhaenys' only fault was that she didn't memorize Fire and Blood to have been clairvoyant. So her killing half of her own family on behalf of the people who supposedly killed her son…would've been some sigma brain stuff but not practical. If only Catelyn poisoned Cersei's wine at the winterfell feast, it would've been game over. If Robb Stark only executed Qyburn. Then there's the smallfolk who were killed. Rhaenys having no remorse for killing all these smallfolk probably shows the callous lack of regard the targ royals had for the peasantry. The smallfolk play a decisive role in the story later on. That can be tied in with what Rhaenys does here. We'll just have to wait and see. Having said all that, this episode should've ended with the perfect ending of Aegon and Sunfyre as it was supposed to be in the source.
"everything u feel for me…as ur queen." I can't handle that level of palpable sexual tension lol. my tragic star crossed lovers. Even tho the rhaenys thing overshadowed everything else ffs, the rest of the epiosde felt like a white house political thriller with a "race against time" feel from start to finish suspense. The haunting score reminded me of Light of the Seven. When Otto was moving the chess pieces, purging Black loyalists, Beesbury yelling, Caswell hanging..I was on the edge of my seat! I knew it's hitting the mark when I saw reactors already chomping at the bits for vengeance lol. Until now we'd only seen deviant Aegon. Here is where we see the range of his character, with Tom killing it. The "I have no wish to rule" scene & the "do you love me" scene. Aegon's two most prominent traits. Depression & resentment. I'm now optimistic about King Aegon II in S2 as the focus shifts more towards him. The crowning ceremony rituals were a historygasm, finally befitting a king in GoT universe! All the actors for Otto, Alicent, Aegon, Helaena, Aemond did a phenomenal job bringing out rhe urgency of the moment with their facial expressions.
Tom absolutely killed it here. Hard to believe the only thing we've seen of perhaps the most important character of the show until now is them hammering in that he's a sexual deviant, ffs. There's so much more depth to Aegon and finally we get a tiny glimpse of it. King Aegon's two defining traits : depression and resentment. Depression …the way he tells Aemond "let me find a ship and sail away" at that moment I can't help but feel bad for him. Resentment…when he asks his mother "do you love me". The childhood neglect, the burden of expectation being the king's firstborn son, the validation he always craved from his father and never got that shattered his self esteem, and finally the roar of the crowd serving to feel that void. Tom's acting during the coronation…the changing facial reactions and body language to the adulation of the crowd was unreal! Hoping to see this direction for King Aegon in S2!
Fans when Daemon executes Vaemond for RIGHTFULLY accusing Princess Rhaenyra of siring bastards & committing treason vs fans when Criston executes Beesbury for WRONGFULLY accusing Queen Alicent of regicide. This show is a case study in tribalism.
Beast beneath the boards is referring to more than Meleys me thinks. GoT phrases always had multiple entendres. Everything in this episode is kind of like a 'beast beneath the boards' simmering in the surface and I think that's the point. It's referring to Aemond's ambitions for the throne. It's referring to Otto's brutal machinations behind his calm exterior. It's referring to Aegon's hidden depravity — the way Helaena recoils when bowing to Aegon? It's referring to the White Worm's warning to Otto about how it's the people who ultimately enable them. As Larys said, Otto knew about the White Worm but allowed her to exist and essentially grow in the shadows. That was a great way to plant future seeds with the smallfolk. Our newly anointed king Aegon II was hiding beneath the "boards" too. Maybe we were looking at the wrong beast this whole time.
It's a new day for the realm! Buckle up cause there's enough copium to go around for everyone! No more Daddy Dearest to hide behind! No more "the king's word is final"! Oh but it is. The king's word IS final 🙃. Going against it IS treason 🙃 :
"To King Aegon II, we pledge our faith. Hearth and heart and harvest we yield up to His Grace. Our swords, spears and arrows are under His command. May he grant us strength and we shall never fail him. We swear it by earth and water. We swear it by bronze and iron. We swear it by ice and fire." ⚔🥲
"The child is a boy Aemma. I'm certain of it. I've never been more certain of anything. The dream. It was clearer than a memory. Our son was born wearing Aegon's iron crown. And I heard the sound of thundering hooves, splintering shields, and ringing swords, as the bells of the Grand Sept tolled. And I placed my heir upon the Iron Throne…"
That famous opening line from the house of the dragon trailer. Viserys was right all along. But it was destined to be the boy he refused to acknowledge.
Rhaenys is just Catelyn 2.0. She cringes me the f out with her decision making. Otto, Aegon and Alicent are probably my favorite characters. Daemon and Rhaenyra are awesome too but I don't support anyone else in team Black other than them. I think Aegon will make a great king and I was not too happy with Rhaenys intruding the ceremony rudely like that. Total feminist move.
Rhaenyra Targaryen unfortunately lacks two things. The Conqueror's name and the Conqeuror's anatomy. As Daemon had warned/foreshadowed all those years ago during the play in Fleabottom, Rhaenyra's monarchy dies to thunderous applause. The actual coronation with the swords and all that was so freaking cool..our boy dripped out to the max. The black leather and cape with the dragon sigil and the medievaal fcukboy chain!! Wut?! We need this fit back next season!
I dun wannit!!
Typical team black fans being exited by Rhaynes “entrance” and completely ignoring the fact that she killed like 100 innocent people
Rhaenyra during the play at Fleabottom : their wants are of no consequence.
Mysaria here to Otto : there is no power but what the people allow you to take.
This nugget totally goes unnoticed. But we shall see
Guys im new to your channel. I just want to know, are you guys siblings or lovers? Or both, sibling lovers?
If Daenrys was in that position there is only one word will leave on her mouth.
" Dracarys "
Honestly the White Worm in the series is so cringe I cannot.
24:33 she's right actually that WAS the dragon pit. Rhaenys was ironically right where she wanted to be in the first place.
I never really liked the last scene personally it felt like it happened for no reason. If she was gonna do that she should have killed everyone on the stage. It was just cool scene fir cool scenes sake with no real purpose. But hey it looked cool
