Part 1: Let’s Play Fire Emblem Engage | Chapters 1-9

‘ll be streaming this game on Hard Mode until I beat it. Then I’ll make a review of it, before I continue making a traditional Let’s Play for Maddening.

Fire Emblem Engage was first announced on September 13, 2022 during a Nintendo Direct with an estimated release of January 20, 2023.

Engage features characters and other content pulled from across past entries in the series. While previous titles such as Fire Emblem Awakening feature characters pulled from titles set outside their specific world and canon as DLC or other bonus content, Engage is the first mainline series entry to feature characters from all preceding core titles in the central narrative since the second game, Fire Emblem Gaiden.

One thousand years ago, the land of Elyos was besieged by the Fell Dragon Sombron. Thanks to a group of powerful warriors utilizing the powers of heroes of other worlds, Sombron was sealed away. Elyos enjoyed a millennium of peace, but the seal holding back the Fell Dragon has begun to weaken.

Alear, a Divine Dragon, awakens from a thousand-year slumber and becomes a central figure in combating the looming threat of forces attempting to free Sombron. In order to accomplish this goal, Alear must seek out the twelve Emblem Rings, some of which are held by forces loyal to the Fell Dragon.

The continent of Elyos is comprised of two separate landmasses. The larger, ring-shaped landmass is divided into four realms, with Firene in the southwest quadrant, Brodia in the northwest, Elusia in the northeast, and Solm in the southeast. In the center of this ring is an island home to a fifth realm called Lythos.

Elyos has a connection to the worlds of previous Fire Emblem titles through special rings representing the spirits of previous Fire Emblem Lords called Emblems.

  2. It took them this long to establish a good archer and armour unit? Did we forget radiant dawn??? That has Meg and Leonardo. The 2 best units in FE History. How did you forget them mangs???

  3. I don't understand why you bother acting like classic is the way to play the game while the time pulse mechanic is a part of the balance. You lost both your armored unit and your mage as soon as possible then restarted the map when you realized you literally got them killed faster then the game could give you the mechanic to prevent death.

  4. For me idc how mid or bad a personal skill is Jade ain't leaving my party, I love her design and after finding out how broken armor units are that just makes her even better. Lapis and Ivy the other 2 that are gonna be permanent for me ngl

  5. There really isn't that much 'cringe' for how much he uses the word, I feel like he went into this expecting cringe then just over reacted to it all. I won't say the story is fantastic or anything new but it really isnt that bad.

  6. While I agree the story isn't great I feel like the reason it feels so bad is because of how dramatic and over the top most of the characters are. There are many times where something that felt pretty cringy wouldn't have been if the character was being more serious and less dramatic. Even though Three Houses writing wasn't perfect it still felt like a good FE story because the characters that the story revolved around took things much more seriously, and even Claude who liked to mess around still had a serious way of doing it unlike someone like Yunaka who is just weird.

  7. the dialogue in this game legitimately makes me want to drink bleach. I don't think I've ever encountered dialogue in a book, movie, or game that made me so consistently embody the phrase "dying of cringe"

gameplay looks good, but I'll probably never make it past the dialogue.

  8. Mangs: writes off Yunaka as a cringe one dimensional character on first impression

Me: she's gonna have some layers to her, ain't she?

Personally having quirky characters like her and Chloé breaks up the usual cringe or copy pasta units. She's a different cringe that makes me chortle rather than wince

  9. i really don't get why people are complaining and memeing about how weak framme is while completely ignoring the idea that she's a pre promote healer that can counter hit, not a fighter that can heal. asking her to fight is like telling your typical JRPG white mage to use non-magic based attack to fight

  10. Bad guy : Give the ring
Dragon weaken and dieing: NO leave "beam"
    Bad guy evade: umf "leaves"
Wtf u dont just use time to die magic agains to steal the ring xd

  11. As long time fire emblem fans it’s taking us all a bit of time getting used to the break mechanic ahhaha. But I absolutely love it as a new feature that makes me think.

  12. That villain has the theatrics of Japanese theater actors. Those weird exaggerated reactions, they're typical and many Japanese movies have actors that behave like that.

  14. How exactly did Ivy sneak a battalion right to the castle of an enemy neighboring nature when 5m later it is made clear that Brodia guards it border? Soldiers also just randomly make it to the castle in the flower continent at the start. Makes no sense to me.

  15. Mechanics in this game can be cleanly divided into two categories:
    1) wow, this is genuinely interesting and fun and engaging.
    2) okay, but … Why? Just why do we need this?
The ring polishing and the ASMR sleep segments both fall very firmly into the second category.
