Goldstrike Canyon #hiking #howto #thingstodoinlasvegas

Goldstrick Canyon is a beautiful area which leads to the Colorado River – It is hard hike roughly 4.8 (that’s difficult) – It’s near the Hoover Dam and Boulder City. It is best to get there early – the parking lot does get full. Hiking in the middle of the day will be extremely HOT. 🔥 Ensure you bring plenty of water 💦 to drink; snacks! What you bring in – Bring OUT! Please help keep the park clean – Sunscreen and wearing a hat is highly suggested when hiking in Las Vegas NV. Las Vegas is a beautiful place; but the sun 🌞 can be pretty strong even if there is a lovely breeze. Before heading to the park – Check the closures timeframe – it is closed from roughly mid-May through October due to the heat!

There are about 7 ropes to repel; but you have to be able to climb back up and out. Our hands were so sore. I did bring gloves; but they were my biking gloves and they really didn’t work so great! During the hike / walk we encountered lots of rocks / pebbles – they are sharp and hot. It gets extremely HOT 🔥 in the canyon. People go there on their travels and decide to hike at the last minute without doing their due diligence – many people are NOT prepared in terms of not having enough water or not wearing the appropriate footwear. Your shoes may get wet!

I can’t emphasize enough ! It is critical to have plenty of water. During our hike, there were individuals with only 1 small water bottle (we carried a camel back) – It is a round trip of about 6 to 7 miles. It is rather easy to get lost; so pay attention to your surroundings. There are a few arrows to lead you in the direction you need to be going; however, there are areas, like I said, where it would be easy to get lost. Ensure you have enough water; a charged cell phone.

As with any hiking / park – make sure you do your research! It’s really important! On the video you will notice that one of my first slides are the park rules and recommendations – with that being said – please do not bring your dogs – there is a warning. And if you go against the recommendation of the park and bring your dog; talk to you vet to ensure your dog is able to make the trek and ask for recommendations to protect their paws. Separate water for them is also a GREAT idea – The water is NOT potable (drinkable) it will get you sick as well as your dog.

Please be safe – Heed the recommendations of the park by researching before you decide to venture out – Have a great time! Let someone know where you’re going if you decide to do this solo – and the time you’re expected back. Have FUN! Be safe! Drink Water! Sunscreen! Hats!
