Goku can travel instantly to anyone with a power level high enough for him to notice. While Whis can pretty much travel anywhere but requires time to get there. One requires knowledge while the other one requires time.

Trunks originally went to the past to change his future however it didn't work
That's because dragon balls universe runs off multiverse theory so
What he does in the past won't effect his future it will just create a different future for the past and therefore a different timeline
There is also a movie timeline
Because the writer of the movies says they are a seperate timeline from the main
And GT is also a seperate timeline
As Akira toriyama called it a grand side story
Ontop of that you could also say that the manga for super is a seperate timeline aswell since events play out differently then in the anime

Whis is using his own power to fly meaning using his own speed
Goku is using instant transmission which is a technique that allows anyone
Even the weakest and slowest person ever
To get somewhere instantly
It could be on the other side of the universe but aslong as you can pick up a signature you can get there instantly
Goku isn't using his power or his own speed to do it he is just teleporting with a technique

Its kinda funny when you realise mai is a cougar and trunks went after her. She was a villain working for emperor pilaf in dragonball but was turned younger again with them. Thats why in dragon ball gt pilaf turns goku into a kid again. He wanted revenge for his own mistake not realising saiyans age differently.
Tim e travel works on the multiverse theory, where whenever you change time, you create an alternate reality. When Trunks went back in time in DBZ, he was trying to change the past, even though it wouldn't affect his future. This time he's going back in time to get help to save his own time.
In regards to Instant Transmission, Goku is teleporting while Whis is just moving really fast.

Super is too recent. This is not new. What you SHOULD do is "react" from the very beginning of Dragon Ball, and then watch Dragon Ball Z after that. The mistake the Naruto generation of kids make is watching one or two episodes of DBZ: Kai and think they know everything about Dragon Ball. Unfortunately, this resulted into a generation of kids who think Naruto characters can beat Raditz from early Dragon Ball Z, which is simply impossible for Naruto characters to do.

The reason why Future Trunks has blue hair is just a change of character design because Bulma has blue hair in the anime but in the manga she has purple hair.
So trunks was given purple hair at first in the anime but in super the decided to change it to blue to fit the anime Bulma design and since it'd be too jarring to change Young Trunks hair right away so they basically establish that it'll turn up when he grows up by giving the new hair to Future Trunks.
Instant transmission is more of a technique not a physical ability. & Whis did say he’s the fastest being in the universe.

– you need somebody else at the destination to lock on his energy and teleport there (yes ,it's a faster traveling method than whis's , but if there is nobody at the destination then it's useless,Whis doesn't need nobody )
– limited in distance by the power of the target ,if you want to travel further then you need a powerful character there
Whis's method:
– slower than instant transmission ( 26 minutes from Beerus place to the Earth even though Whis it's fast as hell)
– nobody else it's required
Kai instant transmission:
– can teleport anywhere without needing to lock on
– nobody else it's required
– it's faster than Goku's Instant Transmission ( which requires concentrating the ki in his fingers and touching his forehead because of the extra signs )
If a Kai,Goku and Whis would be to participate in a race from Beerus place to the Earth then the Kai would win , 2nd and 3rd places are debatable ( if the Earth has a population no more then Goku can't use Instant Transmission , so he will need to use his flight ,which it's slower than Whis's). We know that Goku can now survive in the space ( he fought Beerus in space), but for how long? Is he like Frieza where it doesn't affect him? Or traveling from Beerus's place to the Earth will suffocate him on the way?
