Godzilla ultimately becomes the giant protector of Japan.
You should also watch "Godzilla, King of the Monsters!" This 1956 film is a heavily re-edited Americanized version of the original 1954 film, "Godzilla," starring Canadian born American actor Raymond Burr. It will be well worth your time.
Think that this film was made ten years after the bombing of Hiroshima and some of the context makes more sense.

The original Godzilla 1954 is basically a warning against atomic warfare, in the form of a monster. It is truly a masterpiece. When it came over tinthe states they edited and put in Raymond Burr for American audiences. Godzilla wasnt evil here. They do have him as sort of a villian in later movies as well as a hero. He battles other Kaiju(monsters). Mothra has been both ally and enemy to Godzilla. She is considered Queen of the monsters and basically good. Rodan starts off with his own movie then appears in Godzilla movies as both ally and enemy. Godzillas main foe is Ghidorah the 3-headed space monster also called Monster Zero. I hope you consider these movies in the future. They really are fun 😊
I wouldn't jump straight into the 2024 Godzilla x Kong movie after you watch Minus One, go to the 2014 Godzilla! It's the start of a movie-verse and you'll miss a lot if you don't start at the beginning!
Hope you watch Godzilla Minus One now. Don't have to watch any of the other Godzilla movies because Minus One is basically a "remake" of the original Godzilla. Minus One only took like $15,000,000 to make, and it still won the Oscar for best visual effects even with such a small budget for modern day movies.
Being Japanese how is she so horrified by the fish being killed. They eat them raw and wiggling.
Does my heart good when individuals who grew up during the dominance of CGI and SFX in general after the breakthroughs of STAR WARS are able to appreciate the groundbreaking SFX that lead to all that. This film, and 1933's KING KONG were both films that initiated my 50+ years of model making, miniature work and dioramas.
2014 Godzilla and 1998 Godzilla are guilty pleasures
9 years after Hiroshima. Must have been harrowing to watch this representation of what happened to your people and country, in the form of a badly burnt destructive force of nature.
It's great that you are watching this original movie as it is a cornerstone for so many Godzilla movies that follow. Including the Oscar-winning "Godzilla Minus One"
this movie was made in 1954. the atomic bombs were dropped on japan in 1945, not even 10 years later. imagine the flashback horror for the japanese audiences then. we are so far removed from those events now, but back then it must have had such power and weight. and it can be seen as an anti-war movie. at least an anti-nuclear war movie. this movie was a statement. it turned into a franchise and sometimes got silly. but it started off as a serious movie.
Used to watch these on late-night TV with my folks. We made Godzilla with our nukes. Another fun one is "Mothra."

In all his incarnations, Gojira is a radioactive aquatic lizard. His primary weapon is his stock atomic breath. Besides Godzilla Minus One, I also recommend watching Shin Gojira and the Monsterverse films
OK, this is not the American version. In the USA, some scenes featuring actor Raymond Burr were added to make the movie more relatable to American audiences.
IDK how many Godzilla movies there have been, but it has to be over 30. Godzilla has gone from being the destroyer of Japan to being its protector. Godzilla has even had a son in one or two movies, has battled aliens with a robot Godzilla, fought off multiple other monsters, and even conquered Hell in a comic book. This is one of if not the most successful movie franchises ever made.
They still use the original theme song and roar. 65+ years later and those are still iconic.

SSSKRRRROOOONNK! That roar. The most iconic sound in film history in my opinion. Minus One is fantastic, but it still owes everything to this film. I am happy to see you give this film a view. I enjoyed the reaction! I think more people should take time to watch the old classics.
The beauty of the Godzilla franchise is that there isn’t really any real continuity in the movies until the late 80’s/90’s Heisei era, so you can pretty much watch whichever you want.
I think that it's fantastic that you're starting with the original 1954 Ishiro Honda version as opposed to introducing yourself to Godzilla through the 1998 Emmerich version or the 2014 Monsterverse version like so many other reactors do.
Such a classic. And I'm so glad you went with the original Japanese version instead of the Raymond Burr version. This is such a great film that touches on the horrors of nuclear war in such a unique way. It's amazing how much of a cultural impact this has had on the world. Godzilla truly is King of the Monsters.
So Godzilla has a few “eras” they speak of, Shōwa Era which goes from this film up to the 70’s. The first four or so are good but start to get wacky and fun.
Next is Heisei which starts at 1984 and goes to Godzilla vs Destroyah there’s I believe about 6 films in all. The roots of that series stem from the 1954 movie. So basically 84 is the sequel to this film. If you wanted to do like a few reactions to the Japanese films and the fun wacky stuff I’d recommend that era it’s short and more manageable for reactions.
After that is the Millennium Era another short era starts at Godzilla 2000 but not all those films follow eachother but the follow this film. It’s hard to explain but most of those films are basically just sequels to this film only minus two of them.
After that is Rewa Era, which has two films Shin Godzilla and Minus One. Both of those films are commentary on things in Japan one of which is how their modern government works the other similar to this involving WWII aftermath but I don’t want to ruin it, the commentary is different from 1954 it’s not just the atomic weapons.
Then you have the fun legendary films that America is producing for the Monsterverse those are fun too, I would say it’s a good idea to see that with some of the older films to eee the shout outs and such. But you don’t need to see ALL the films though each are fun in their own way.
A lot of the Godzilla movies created after were geared towards kids. Watching this one than Minus One works as they kind of bypassed the movies in between. Oh – be sure to have tissue handy

Dinosaurs went extinct a lot more than 2 million years ago, and this was common knowledge by 1954. This is simply laziness on the part of the writers.
I have fond memories of watching these movies growing up in the 1970s. I can remember they used to be on ITV on a Saturday morning. Effects may have been cheesy and acting wooden, but they were harmless fun. Probably more enjoyment watching these one that I have with the modern day ones (Godzilla Minus One excluded!)

You should absolutely watch King Kong (1933).
I became a bit of a Godzilla Stan after watching Minus One a couple of months ago. Shin Godzilla is also a crazy version of the creature and very react worthy. Mothra is my Goddess though 🤔🤣🦋
It also prompted me to watch some vids and read up on the actual atomic testing of the 60s and 70s…its genuinely scary, especially with the Tsar Bomba… Biggest blast ever and they wanted it to be twice as big but there would have been no plane powerful enough to actually fly it to the right altitude at that weight.

When I was a little kid, 4-5 years old, I watched these movies in complete AWE because of what I was seeing! 2 giant monsters fighting each other! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone should react to Tokyo Story (1953). It is very slow paced, it is a drama, no action. The complete opposite of today's movies. But it is a Japanese masterpiece.
You should check out the movie Doc Hollywood with Michael J. Fox. Good movie and it's right up your alley! You'll love it!!
