On tonight’s top story: Post-tropical cyclone Lee made landfall in Atlantic Canada on Saturday, battering and soaking Nova Scotia and New Brunswick with heavy rains and high winds. The post-tropical cyclone has already left more than 200,000 homes without electricity. Callum Smith has the details.

Global News’ chief meteorologist Anthony Farnell reports from Yarmouth, N.S., where he said a storm surge was the biggest concern for officials.

More bodies were pulled from the sea Saturday, as search and rescue efforts continued following the devastating flooding in Derna, Libya. According to the Red Crescent, more than 11,000 people have been killed so far, with an estimated 10,000 people still missing.   2. The only way you can have cheap food is by keeping housing prices low by creating a surplus. That means using forested land for housing. Otherwise, when housing prices escalate farmland also escalates and the land becomes unfeasible to farm, is sold and turned into estates that grow back to nature. By halting the use of land protesters are tightening the snare on their own demise.

    Because I guarantee if you look at corporations earnings reports from 2019-2023 you will see not just increased revenue but increased net income and higher profit margins. Inflation has not been caused by higher wages or stimulus payments but by corporate greed.

    You can also check just how little tax these corporations pay on their income, a much much lower rate than any citizen pays. Every time corporate tax rates are cut citizens will end up paying more.

    Corporate tax rate in Canada: 15%
    Average personal tax rate in Canada: 25%

    But corporations make billions! I'm sure they overall pay more tax than individual citizens right? Wrong.

    Personal income tax revenue for 2018: 153 billion
    Corporate tax revenue for 2018: 47.8 billion

    Individuals provide 3x as much as corporations.

How come any government can overlook the severe unaffordability problem and allow a large influx of immigrants, students, and refugees?   24. Lets just give thanks that this storm was not lethal. Take a moment to think of 20,000 dead after a cyclone hit Libya. Hold your loved ones close. Donate if you can to the red cross and unhcr efforts in Libya. It is a nice way to show your gratitude if you are safe, dry and have a roof over your head tonight.

  25. In Nova Scotia, the trees are the main problem in any severe wind event. People have large old trees close to their homes and alone power lines. Instead of being proactive by cutting down trees that threaten their home, they are left to chance and nature. Nova Scotia Power allows trees to be grown and retained that threaten power lines. This attitude needs to change.

  35. Get a generator, preferably a Honda you’ll have power. An essential piece of kit for anyone. Save up money instead of buying lattes and you’ll have lights and heat instead. People should now by know that this happens every year no excuses for being unprepared anyone can start slowly
