I watched this movie during a back yard camping party when I was 13 and became obsessed. I own this and all the sequels (including the weird prequel one that still holds a place in my heart)
every time i look at brigette all i see is timothee chalamet im so sorry but it's true
All us young gays were inexplicably obsessed with the thirteenth year…
Yay! I love Ginger Snaps. Interesting comment about the score/OST. To me, the main theme (both the intro version and the ending version) are veeeery memorable, I don't know if it's mostly nostalgia, but I still listen to it to this day. I love it c:
Anyone remember that shitty Selena Gomez “Cinderella” sequel. That had a Ginger Snaps reunion of Emily Perkins and Katherine Isabelle. It could be the weirdest and most random way you could ever choose to do a reunion of them.
I am an Andrew but like Andrew was able to find moments of fun in Ginger Snaps where I would normally be too squeamish. My friends and I do movie night and we recently saw Brain Damage which was actually pretty fun but there were moments where I really hated it. Cannot WAIT for Witchtober! Justice for the OG Actress who played Marnie I am still bitter she got replaced in Halloweentown 4 even though I was like 16 when it came out.
Any Red Green fans? The teacher in this movie is Ranger Gord. Also I love Brain Damage!
i’m going to recommend a thousand times over a retro review of interview with the vampire (AND the new reboot series on amc that FULLY plunges into pure gay nonsense) for the halloween season
LMFAO! The way Andrew can bring up obscure Disney original movies into these reviews. It's been 15-20 years since I've seen or thought about them, but I'm there with him.
Every October I know you will always cover something integral to my adolescence and once again you’ve done it ❤❤❤
Took me a while to realize the actress who played Brigitte also played the young Beverly Marsh in the 1990 version of Stephen King's It.
Totally on the other end of the spectrum but a great period allegory story is Disney’s Seeing Red when you need a PMS pick me up 😅
Avaryl saying "hit that" in earnestness would be hilarious.
So, anyway; the whole vampire-werewolf thing is a Hollywood invention born out of the 40's-era Universal Monsterverse. Considering they're the only "cool" or "sexy" of the bunch (tell that to Shape of Water…), and because their domains overlap, they're often paired up or pitted against one another. Supernatural beings in myth & folklore generally sought out people, rather than each other. Because, if they didn't, what good would they serve as parables and cautionary tales?
Omg love your hair Av
I SAW THIS AND I SCREAMED!!!!!!!!!! I AM A HUGE FAN OF GINGER SNAPS!!!!!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who remembers the blood video
if you want to learn more about vampires and werewolfs I recomend the 2004 documentary "Van Helsing"… It's awful
Fun show! But that massive yellow wine glass ……… Scarier than the movie. Makes the wine look a nasty colour. 😮
P.S. I am from Winnipeg as well!
Fun fact Lucy Lawless is actually credited toparticipate on this film while Kristen Stewart is credited for appearing in the thirteenth year
U gotta watch the second one . Tatiana Manslany from Orphan Black is in it and plays an evil child from hell.
First saw this movie when I was like 8 or something and it was my favourite film for about 5 years lol
All time favourite movie. Reviews of the sequels would be so fun, Ginger Snaps Back is iconic. Period werewolf sister drama I meannnn….
Omg! The Howling is my second favourite werewolf movie after this. Averyl gets it.
Have you guys reviewed Practical Magic? I love that movie!
Hey all, religious studies professor here: have you heard of the Livonian Werewolf? A Swedish man put on trial in 1692 for claiming to be a werewolf? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiess_of_Kaltenbrun
There were lots of overlapping night creature myths across the Alps and Baltics. The Italian historian Carlo Ginzburg wrote about these kinds of myths in his book The Night Battles: Witchcraft and Agrarian Cults in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Night_Battles
*This is my 2nd time trying to post this comment I hope I didn’t double post!
If I had to name a single seminal piece of werewolf literature, it would be the Werewolf of Paris by Guy Endore (1933). It’s a frame story (a hallmark of Gothic horror) that’s heavy on the allegory and establishes a lot of the werewolf mythology that we’ve seen in movies for the past 100 years. It’s a great October read if you’re looking for a book recommendation!
I loved this movie as an angry depressed goth teen obssessed with death myself. and it hinestly holds up. The other guy was also in Final Destination 3.
I'm most of the way of the great retroreview and had to jump on to post about great experts on Lycanthropology.
I think it's vital that you enjoy this clip from the Danzig home video where Glenn Danzig shows off his library.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RERGlWWoIvA
The Danzig Home Video and the follow-up Lucifuge Home Video are both amazing and perfectly encapsulate the campy/self-serious magic of The Misfits/Danzig/Glenn Danzig.
Found the whole Danzig Home Video here on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSgXAv5sFoE
and this pivotal moment from the Lucifuge Home Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFcGdfOoj2s
And underworld. Wow, why do werewolves and vampires hate each other so much. Its a real Hatfield–McCoy situation.
