Lake Superior? it's probably the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
That's a reflection of a normal ship projected by the scattered light rays that bump into the clouds back to the sea. creating a projection that can be hundreds of miles away from the target. This is similar to a prism decomposing the colors of a light ray. It is a rare phenomena called "retro-reflective multi-chromic anisotropic projection" look it up on Wikipedia.
And clearly you did it even though I have no idea what I'm talking about.

A meteorologist with knowledge about marine weather can explain it better, but in simple terms it has to involve a temperature inversion. Over water and a far distance it's easy to fool the human eye.
