Ahh "Language" the most powerful weapon of all time. You hear on the news "the US army bobmed a village today" you conjure a different image than when you hear "the US army was responsible for the vertical deployment of antipersonnel devices today". Angle, its all about the angle we spin on things. George was always a favorite of mine. Anyone that can open your mind to the bullshit we're told is good food is a savior. Laugh at his jokes, but remember that beyond the joke is the truth. Laugh be happy for a moment and be more vigilant against the spinners that do what they can to fool us. Good work Mr. Carlin.

The PC thing actually started in the 90s, which is why he was talking about this stuff back then. But yeah, it was relatively tame compared to what it has become now.

The routine's well funny but most of this is just language made clearer or more useful. 'Shell shock' implies specifically a scenario with gunfire but the condition does not require gunfire exposure at all so the term changed a few times, getting increasingly precise, to reach Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. 'Directory assistance' is more specific than 'information'. Nobody calls for just any information whatever. They call for assistance with the directory. And 'bathroom tissue' is not the same as 'toilet paper'. It's tissue paper for the bathroom because bathrooms aren't hygienic and nobody wants to be taking the same tissues room to room. Thinner, weaker paper, one-ply, tears easy. Toilet paper on the other hand is the multi-ply cushioned stuff for your ass.
Stuff like 'severe appearance deficent' and the 'go to a wellness center to consult a healthcare professional', he just made up to further the joke. The 'sunshine unit' bit is true though. This routine actually put it in the spotlight and got the Department of Defense so mocked that they scrapped the term. It's called a strontium unit now after an element common in nuclear fallout.
Loved laughing with you, but really loved the serve of thoughtful reflection and philosophy you shared at the end. We use moore direct language here in Norway,even moore so in the north of our country,for some reason.But many people are afraid of words like death,alcoholic or corrupt…Stupid
George Carlin died June 22 2008 of congestive heart failure at 71 in Santa Monica CA. He was the GOAT and is sorely missed ❤
I MISS Goerge Carlin, SO MUCH!!! I watch his routines over and over and I STILL laugh. I first saw him when I was a teenager when he was on the Ed Sullivan Show during the '60s. Have loved him ever since. He was a genius. RIP George, I can only imagine what you would say about our times now. You are right about every one getting so easily offended these days. No one can laugh at themselves. It's really sad.

I got acquainted with Karlin's work back in 2008, the year of his death, unfortunately. And I am very sorry that that generation of imperfect, but adequate people is leaving.

By limiting speech, then you limit thought. That's the reason why our language has changed over the decades. We think in language. So if you limit a population's speech, then by default you limit thought. And every government throughout the world benefits by doing this. The world remains ignorant. Nope. I’m crippled or handicapped. My uncle is retarded and blind. My mom is deaf. If someone calls me handicapable, I ask them to tell me if I’m so capable why I can’t work or why a shower is scheduled in and all I can do in a day so it’s not something that I’m so capable of doing often.
