What're your settings for runes for defeating enemies? I ask because something's definitely weird with the bosses not giving a lot when randomized and the randomized enemies who became bosses also not giving a lot.

It was originally just “Hold the Fort” as in “keep it safe from enemies” but it was later bastardised, largely by Americans, to the version people use today.
