GARDENING IN ALASKA ~ OFF-GRID COLD STORAGE ~ BEST LAID PLANS~ Farm Vlog 9.5.22~ HOMESTEADING ALASKA

Hello! Today on Flat Tire Farm, we try to salvage our untrellised peas. We are getting ready for the first frost to come. We need to get our crops in, and I show you our unconventional off-grid produce storage. Also, we are starting the next big project: getting a place to store our uncovered stuff from the shelter logic that blew away…11 months ago.

  1. Okie dokie…. sad for your peas (happy for what you DID get tho)
Butttt… KOWABUNGA on AWESOME goat snax!! Talk about a happy farm full of animals at the end of season buffet!! Lots of goodies! ❤️
Absolute brilliance for cold storage there Mr & Mrs McGyver!! I've had pretty good luck with the baseball bat size zucchs for making battered slices even tho they're way bigger than what you'd normally use. I just peel them (depending on how thick the skin is) but if you peel them, slice in half, scrape out the seeds (do I sense yummy chicken snax?)❤️ Then I cut each half into slices (thicker than normal so they don't get mushy when you fry them) dredge in flour then into your favorite batter (I really like a beer batter like for fish) then pan fry till just browned up. Yummm! Sounds like a lot of work, but sooo good! I have also been known to make zuch relish instead of pickle relish. I leave the skins on & grind them up (without seeds) & use your favorite relish recipe. I never get upset with the ones that get missed! I'd really be interested in what other subbies do with theirs too. Good luck with the new structure. That should be really handy for you guys when it's done. Here's to cooperative weather for that project!🙏🙏

  2. You guys got alot out of your garden and the animals benefited from it to, win win. You should have made a big salad with dressing 😜 for the animals. The onions tops will make a wonderful onion pesto. What are you going to do with the giant head's of cabbage? Waiting on that video. Have a great day 🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩
