What garden tasks are being tackled for winter in my Zone 6, Ohio garden?
I am growing in Zone 6a (last frost date of approx. mid-May), mid-western Ohio, and focus on growing things I love to eat (vegetables, fruits & herbs), with flowers thrown in primarily for the pollinators & beneficial insects.

I too love snow tracking!
I’m finding out the deer are loving my flowerbeds and small garden near the house. I hadn’t realized that they liked cilantro. I probably won’t miss it 😂 but, they wiped it out.

Tried to grow from seed inside my green house for the first time in December in New York. It took forever to grow lettuce and spinach. I put some Christmas lights inside to give it a degree warmer but still very cold. I may try to seed inside first then bring them out or seed them in October. Thanks for all you have shared.

Currently, I’m waiting on some new seeds from Baker Creek. Darned if I didn’t find some new tomatoes to try. 🥴 Also getting ready to expand the garden, and transplant some Black Jewel raspberries.
If ya wind up with too many hot peppers, like jalapeños, smoking them with fruit wood and sweet pickling them is pretty tasty. Great on pizza, scrambled eggs, or making a cream cheese dip.
You should see all the cardboard I have stashed around the house! (I don’t have a shed) My seed starting racks are filled with overwintered peppers, eggplant and lemongrass. I did make room for onion starts and they’re doing well so far. I’m winter sowing peas and a few other things. Trying a new way…
I have garlic all over my beds so I’m not sure I’ll have room when I need it. I’m trying to sprout slips for sweet potatoes and I already ordered seed potatoes to arrive in the spring.
My projects are putting up a new raised bed and converting some grassy areas into cedar walkways. I also need to adjust two of my raised bed sizes. That’s the project I’m not looking forward to!
Can you point me to where I can get that soil sampling gadget? Looking forward to spring. I'm going to try growing an edible Hibiscus, also called Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) as my experimental plant this year! I try growing one weird variety every year and this is it. I'm in zone 7B so we'll see!
I had a problem with birds eating my seeds last year and I went to Walmart before Memorial Day and they had already gotten rid of all their seeds!! They didn’t sell out, they got rid of them. Lesson learned!

I'm in mid eastern Ohio. A few days ago, my son and I cleaned up in front of our canning Pantry in the basement to pull out the indoor greenhouse, heating mats, grow lights and plug strip. Took it upstairs into the dining room to set everything up. I usually set up 2 of them but this year we have our veggies we grew last year on the racks of the other greenhouse. I will be starting seeds this week or next week. Speaking of my garden supply area which is inside my outdoor greenhouse that I built from 2x4s, 4x4s, lattice, pallets and plastic sheeting. It is a mess from last year! It definitely needs cleaned. One of my windows needs repaired because the glass fell out of it, My roof needs repaired because we have a walnut tree directly behind The greenhouse and decided to drop walnuts on my clear corrugated sheets and make huge holes in it. It's sort of my organized chaos! 😅😂😅😂
Haven't started outside yet to prep the beds, cover the ground or remove any dead plants from last year. Our garden is 60 ft by 30 ft. We also have four old vintage soapstone sinks that I use for plants. I figured out a way to repurpose them instead of them ending up in the landfill. They are sort of another way to make a raised bed. Most of them I have gotten for free and just spent the gas and the back breaking work to go pick them up. 😅

I was snow tracking a few weeks ago and didn’t even know it. And our front door camera helps with this too, it showed how several deer had found a way into what we thought was a protected area. One minute pristine newly fallen snow, the next it’s a deer party. I was going to work on our taxes today, but garden planning sounds much more fun.

YES! Onions had a ‘hair cut’ last week and now I’m pulling out tools to sharpen/clean because I don’t want to start seeds again until February. I SO want to start filling planters outside with fresh soil, but it’s frozen. Turning my energy to house plants – Thank you for this video! 😊

Love this video. Thanks for all of the tips. I’ve started a garden calendar , a journal and using a garden planning site to see which one becomes the favorite. I’m looking at seeds and trying to determine where I will plant each variety. This is my first year doing the Fall and winter prep and I already feel much more prepared for 2024.
Another great video! I have lettuce growing under some grow lights in cycles to see how small of seed trays are needed to take the plants to an edible level.
I am so behind with everything, spent too much time messing with the worms.

Started onions in 6b Saturday. Later than I usually do, but it's been a crazy month. This week, Ill get the celery and maybe some flowers started. I would like to replace some of my beds before the soil thaws too much. Some of my wood is so rotten, I think I can pull it off the sides like a mold and just slip a new bed frame right over it! Lol. I only use 3×5 beds in my small backyard, so it could be doable. 😂
Usually we have a ton of snow this time of year, so I can't even get to my garden without stepping though a ton of snow. This year, it's way to warm, the ground is muddy, and I'm just going through my seeds. I know we're going to get another freeze as MN weather changes so much, and I'm not risking planting to loose my seedlings.
Rinne trap for mice works great. It's a lid you put over a 5 gallon bucket. You put peanut butter inside they have a little ramp, and they go up it and fall into bucket. No nasty trap.
Oh my goodness, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a chaos shed hahaha. Looked very similar to mine – Chewy boxes everywhere, garden supplies scattered around, hay and leaves all over the floor… 😆
Like you, I use Excel to keep track of the plants I want to plant, when to so them, days to maturity, germination time, etc.. I order seeds a season ahead. I'm a bit further south in central Alabama, zone 7B. My dining room table is covered with seed starting trays, seedlings, grow lights, thermostats, etc.. I am doing a spring plant sale starting April 1st, so I am growing hundreds of additional plants on top of my garden plants. The seeds I started are tomato, pepper, bunching onions, and Creole White Onions. As soon as I have more room, I'll sow seeds for Swiss card, Tokyo Bekana Mustard, Giant Red Mustard, basil and dill. In about three weeks, I'll be direct sowing seeds for carrots, golden beetroot, and radishes.
