  2. Should a public service need to make a profit? The purpose of our taxes are to pay for universally beneficial services and infrastructure. Of course, Canada Post has some serious issues and has lost a lot of money over the past seven years: $3 billion. But how much money has the postal service helped Canadian businesses and individuals make year over year? Seeing as we have an annual GDP worth $2 trillion, it was most likely well over the average $430 million loss they've had year over year. I think streamlining and modernization is definitely needed to plug the holes, but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Individuals and businesses rely on this service being public.

  3. When they say they lost $3billion, it's actually much more as for all government agencies and corporations, salaries are not included in profit and loss. Privatization will be the end, as there's no way they can even think of competing with private sector firms.

  4. Note how every business owner complained when Canada Post wasn't available every other option was too much more expensive and they couldn't get their packages out. Privatization has only screwed Canadians over the years. We get a quick windfall and then everything goes to hell.

  5. The private sector sector can already deliver packages in rural and remote communities…but they don't.

No private operator would take on that delivery commitment without a sweetheart deal from the government to slash delivery standards and jack up prices.

Privatization is just a profit tax on a public service.

  6. This is what a union will do to your business. Every Federal organization should immediately go union-less. They increase inflation, they reduce service levels…BUT THEY DO protect the lazy incompetent worker….you can't get rid of them. End the reign of the union!
