  1. For a “primitive” portrait it’s very sophisticated…exquisite. Never liked that term whether applied to humans or their objects. In my opinion the drawings of former slave children are a priceless historical artifact. They are also deeply moving.

  2. 35:14 the drawings of those kids r precious beautiful n at same time heartbreaking —would b nice to know what happened to them after the war.
Mayb the owner would consider selling lending or donating them to the African American Smithsonian museum in DC given their rarity, where some scholarship n research can b conducted on the history of the items.

  3. I watch this for education and entertainment value. Google it for yourself do not destroy your Martin Guitar by taking the ivory off😮 only three states in the whole Union or completely illegal to sell antique ivory the rest of them no problem at all selling not Martin guitar🎉

  4. The children from the school in Baton Rouge during the Civil War were noted as "contraband" scholars because this was before the Emancipation Proclamation. Until then, slaver was still legal in all states except where state law prohibited. As slaves they were the property of the plantation, but since the Union had control of the area, they were legally contraband. A reminder of the inhuman institution of slavery, and the evil that endorsed and fought to protect it.

  5. His statement regarding the Martin guitar and that she would have to remove the ivory bridge because of CITES (endangered species laws) was incorrect. The guitar is an antique with manufacture date of 1929 prior to such protective laws and thus not illegal or prohibitive to own or have.
