I swear I’ve heard this somewhere before. Maybe a tts channel, still glad you did it.
I'm curious how's his version going to stack up against guardbro, I listened to this story good 3 or 4 times already
That ending was beautiful
Been playing Skyrim the entire time and only noticed the backdrop in the last 5 minutes.
spoilers below, I think?
huh, went looking for the original post because this feels like the sort of thing I'd like to read instead of listen to in the background while I play a game…or read something else at the same time, anyways, I ended up on the tvtropes page on this and it seems to think that the entire reason they were summoned was the gods wanted them to kickstart tech development because the status quo in the D&D setting is so stable it negates it almost entirely.
thing is though? this is apparently supposed to be based on the main setting and in that it is straight up cannon that the entire reason there isn't crazy ass magitech everywhere is that the gods come down on that shit HARD to the point where they will not only ally with their worst enemy to do it but even trust that worst enemy with their life and the lives of their allies and trust them to hold to that after the fact long enough to get back to status quo. most of the longer lived species are at least somewhat aware of this and even help out when they can because they do NOT want those psychotic little mayfly monsters to get any more dangerous than they already are but it's mostly just the gods since they have the best information warfare capacity by several orders of magnitude.
I'm not even sure if it's malicious: the gods are absolutely doing that out of self-interest but somebody made them that way in the first place and the effect is that they are locking everyone into a sweet spot where they can spread on an interplanetary scale, live sustainably, and produce a comfortable safety envelope for pockets of civilization against anything short of a planet killing disaster but can not effectively wage war between any of those planetary civilizations. everyone is at a slightly mixed tech level ranging from medieval up to pre-industrial tech with some innocuous stuff like manufacturing dies and pigments being full-on modern or better and with magic adding a lot of utility and stability to enable and support societies (for a good example an orphan on the streets in most areas has easier access to FAR better healthcare than you do) and they have all been at roughly this state since before the dawn of recorded history: the key point is that that recorded history is about 140000 years and counting and the civilization that shares it spans hundreds of planets across multiple universes.
^everything before ~60k back is pretty fuzzy for everyone but the aboleths and those things are the closest thing the setting has to a universal adversary so they ain't tellin' nobody nothin'. case in point the start of recorded history is the tail end of a massive war against them…assuming you believe the faction that profited the most from it and ended up with a stranglehold on every civilization and most individual people…

Hell yeah, listened to talesforge narrate this, get to listen to one of my favorite stories again.
more like this please!
the ending was a sort of a sweet ending with a tang of bitterness. overall didnt mind it, kinda curious as to when they met back up and if he figured out the whole body issue
Wow
This was a good 8 out of 10
one of the best six hours i've ever had
For The Algorithm
That was amazing
That was an interesting listen, fun how you can sort of see the person just keeping a journal from his pathfinder campaign
I know this is as far as the author has gone thus far, but dang if that wasn't actually structured like an Isekai novel (cliff hanger endings, multiple story arks, etc). Probably best it ends where it did (optimistic?).
Thanks to the author.
Thanks to the narrator.
Finally finished. Great job on it and such an interesting story.
Mi wan moar
That was a long one, I know one thing, don't ever ride an airship.
