HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture.

  1. Well, the aliens were … decent. The humans… the general… were atrocious. People don't talk like that. It is a ringing DIN of false. Which, if it's a scripted falsehood, could be interesting, if it was actually leading somewhere. But it doesn't. And that irritates me.

My most charitable read is the author is green. I don't have any more friendly analysis of the writing here. DNF

  2. ''absurd to leave people to rot if they not succeded on ther own'' ..dont worry alien scalies… thats why 99% of the 'developed' world rolls ther eyes at one of the major english speaking nations..hmm.. i wonder if they bump into that culture/political aspect considering they appear to have contacted the 'western' nations first…and that a majority of those operates far more wellfare/socially ..like the aliens themselfs , unlike the 'power houses' so to speak..hmm..

  3. Imagine just walking by the cafeteria and you just see a fucking a lizard as tall as an adult shouting a foriegn language while your coworkers are just standing there fucking terrified.

  4. At the end the "political debate" is what ruined for me. More importantly that acceptance the lizardman showed, and they didnt held up their own morals in a sense, they let the humans manipulate them.

  5. The Val'an are all equal among each other, except for near god-like, legendary leaders that nearly rendered our scholar unable to perform his task but their mere telecommuted presence.
When you have leadership, a caste system, and a diversity of capability, you don't have equality. When you hold another member of your society in such high regard- whether a celebrity or leader- you do not treat people equally. You might only- at that point- have equality before the law; but as we know, those who break the law are not Val'an, but the Casteless.
I was able to ignore the ideology in favor of the drama up to the end, but my goodness was it laid thick at the end.
It is still pretty good fiction though, and it should be expected- coming from Reddit- that such would be the case. Well, most people can't write without their values bleeding through, really.
