Frustrated victims set up cameras to catch mail thieves. But did it work?

KPRC 2 Investigates has warned you repeatedly about Houston’s huge mail theft problem. Business owners in Katy who lost thousands of dollars put up their own money to lead cops right to thieves stealing their mail night after night. But those victims are feeling fed up and helpless.

  1. I laughed when the reporter said you should call to report if mail has been stolen out of your mailbox. Two of the thieves were arrested and bounded out in hours, mail theft is on the rise, the number of arrests and conviction dropped … so what's the point of making reports?

  2. We don't want to end up like the countries where every house has bars over the windows and there's a metal perimeter fence around the property. Constantly increasing security just makes us all feel like prisoners. We need to take steps to change society and move back toward a place that feels safe and locks aren't necessary.

  3. I’m a mail carrier here at the postal service and I kid you not when I say a postal inspector came to our office talking about we need to take care of the Amazon packages and really all packages better. He didn’t even mention the mail 😂😂
On a more serious note we told him about a couple incidents where 3 of our female employees had been sexually harassed while out on their route and he was like that’s a local issue but make sure we’re delivering Amazon… either our leadership is trying to get ppl to pay for those PO Boxes or they really trying to destroy the post office, they say they’re hiring postal police officers and inspectors tho

  4. Harris county is applying the failed policies of bailing out criminals. Americans wonder why Singapore, UAE and more are so safe! You can walk away from you laptop in a restaurant and still find it, because they have law and order, harsh punishment that stopped people from committing them.

  5. It's a very simple fix. You sit in the lot waiting for the criminals to show, you pop them and leave the bodies as a warning. Do this a few times and odds are they'll go elsewhere. Too harsh? Ok, so how about an OC spray bath automatically triggered if the boxes are opened at night? Add a little spray dye and the perps should be easy to find. Still too harsh? Electrify the boxes, turn the boxes into one giant bug zapper – make sure the sprinklers go off keeping the cement wet at night. They'll keep their thieving mits off the boxes. No more waiting for the cops whose hands are tied or or court system who gives them a cookie and a pat on the head just to send them out to do it again.
